Here's a little help >
When opening the "intec", or "hipgear" screen pad, you will need to meticulously examine the construction of the unit as it reveals iteself through your work of stripping it open (gently), the only wires that I dis-connected were the audio signal wires going to the small flanking speakers that I removed, all 8-9 multicolor wires that connect the controller - BE CAREFUL not to disconnect any other wires that are power related as this may end you project there, and the backlight, When you are opening one of these controller screen pads, all of this info will become obvious in front of you as long as you think your way through it. At times your dis-assembly will look like a long controlboard-wire-board-wire-board, mess, this is good,
When buying a SLIDE PROJECTOR , try to find the carousel style as they are generally newer and have more internal lcd room, once you remove some of the slide mechanics and metal moving parts inside, Now the only work to do is to is the proper orientation of the lcd panel and making the lcd rigid in its position so that once the projector is re-assembled the lcd will not shift, let me know how your projects are coming along, thanks

OOOOHHH, yeah, here is a TIP on how to avoid ever tearing your lcd to controlboard wire, these are generally paper thin and can easily be torn in your lcd stripping process, some have discovered this the hard way, and there project ended way early>>>
Cut a small length of electrical (thin, black) tape that is slightly longer than the lcd connecting wire, then gently lay it flat over the wire so that the ends touch the lcd and the control board, this tape will create a reinforcing strength while allowing for a bit more rotational movement, and preventing a tear, remember any tear, even the most incremental, and not visible to the eye, can result in altered preformance and most likely ruined, trash, Unless you kept your receipt and/or you are a sodering expert, hope this helps
>>>ALSO, be sure to cover, or tape the entire control board assembly before you permanently insert it into the projector, this will PREVENT any electrical interferance that will effect your lcd with a glitchy image, and will protect you from getting burned or electricuted during your build, post pics soon

Thanks for the advice dale!
Still have a question for you. About the RCA cable, where do you plug it to the screen? Do you need to cut the controller cable and connect it with the RCA one? Or is it directly connected to the screen? Does it require any soldering? (what a newbie i'm am
)
I'm quite puzzled 😕
Can't wait to see more pics of your setup!

OK connectivity of the "intec" and/or "hipgear" controller with screen goes like this, please see pic below for visual aid, VERY EASY
The controller screen has a single wire coming from the back of it, the intec model does not have any inputs on the device just one wire coming out the back > THIS WIRE opens up to a power connector, an Xbox, Ps2, and gamecube females ( ready to plug into these game consoles) VERY SIMPLE >
The adapter cord shown is the purchase needed to connect your dvd player, tv, etc... into this lcd , once purchased this connectivity is self expanlatory and quite simple really >
and once you connect the two, you now have Rca's ready to plug into your video scource of choice !

I picked up a hipgear controller and the converter cable.
Does the s-video work as well, or just the rca's? I personally can't get an image from the s-video, haven't tried the rca yet.
Thanks!

To answer my own question: no, the s-video will not work.
I disassembled the hipgear controller. I found out that the adapter cable is not required, if you are willing to cut a few wires and do some easy soldering.
There are only 7 important wires that go to the lcd control boards: 2 video, 3 audio, and 2 power. I will post the color code once I get back home. These can be soldered to a few rca female connectors and a DC power jack, which can be mounted on the outside of the slide projector.
Cheers!

7 wires go from the controller to the display board of the hipgear controller:
Video:
Yellow = RCA pin
Brown = RCA shell
Power:
Green = DC ground
Orange = DC power +12V
Audio (optional for a projector):
Red = Right RCA pin
White = Left RCA pin
Black = L+R RCA shell

Oh man! I feel so *******ing stupid!!!
I've bought the RCA cables, and now I understand what you meant by ''self-explanatory''... I can't believe it's that simple!!
By the way, I've got all I need, and a couple of hours of spare time, so I'm gonna give it a try!!!
Thanks, and sorry for beeing so stupid last time 🙄

I need help here!
I've stripped the LCD and made a stand to lay it in front of the lens as I tried it, a black spot started to grow on the screen. Now, beeing not that stupid, closed the projector, and the lcd seems to have gotten back to normal.
Now, I suppose that this is due to excessive heat, as I don't know what else it could be...
Any suggestions or answers?

sounds like heat...
I'll jump on this diy bandwagon (what the heck, it's only like $30, and even if the picture doesn't look too great it will still be good for playing music vids at parties and stuff). I hadn't ever thought of using the cheapo and plentiful lcd's from video-game accessories, it's a great idea! The combination of the slide projector (so we don't have to mess around with getting lenses and lamps and arranging them) is excellent as well. I will report back with pictures and notes as I get them.
Looks like fun
Looks like I might just try this for the money it would be fun. I have a question on the slide projector though. Any idea what watt bulb is in it, as well as focal lengths. Figured I'd try and find a brighter one on ebay. Also KBToys have 20% off all video game purchases this thur-sun if over $40, could get 2 controllers for that much.

just got the one for 19.99 at futureshop (btw, its 19.99 canadian, thats only 15$ us!). Its alot brighter than I thought. And I didnt need any cable to buy, i just used the original ps1 rca cable. The Hip Gear one has a ps2 av jack, both male and female.
Im tempted to get one of these and put my 150w mh cdm-t behind it, i bet it would kick some *** then lol. Ive got the perfect cooling for it and all, anyone wana send me one from the states? i got paypal.

hey buddy,
before ordering I think we have to figure out whether it'll work with PAL-standard. NTSC is not common in Europe.
That was ma question before but nobody answered.......
u're makin me curious. what kinda cooling u've got?

So, I ask again: Will dis lil gizmo work with PAL ?
Thx.
ief
I want one too... got paypal.
Depending again on pal compatibility, but for the money I would get one anyhow. My pc can output NTSC cant it? I'll install it on the front of my pc case if nothing else.
whos up to organise me one? I'll sling you some beer money (can't afford much though lol) and copious amounts of good karma.

A perfect sized high pressure low noise barrel fan😉 , this thing gushes out air at low rpm, the air is also alot colder then a normal fan.
I recon we could make a hell small projector with one of these, with a cdm-t or similar bulb, a couple of pcx lenses and a 8mm or similar film triplet lens. Id go for a projection lens the same size or bigger then the lcd though and run it all paralelle.
