New JX53 Drive UnitLandroval said:Whats new about the new JX53?
For the past eighteen months we have been developing a new version of the JX53, aiming to extend the frequency range and general performance over the existing, highly-regarded units.
This development is a painstaking process but new unit is progressing well and we are currently testing early production batches. We are aiming at a release date of late November.
For those of you waiting for the driver, bear with us as we will not release anything which does not match our exacting standards. We are very excited by the performance of the new driver, which raises the bar for wide bandwidth, moving coil drive units.

what I don't get is that within the last 3-4 years the price of Jordan drivers to the DIY market has increased almost 50%. Now I know that labor costs are going up, but this seems excessive. The only other conclusion I can come to is that MarkAudio (and/or Jordan) is either padding their pockets for gain and/or is padding for currency "float" (provided they keep with a level price). And frankly those abroad (US and other markets) shouldn't have to deal with the UK pound at all - its not like the drivers are made there.
Fair question, I suspect it has to do with the relatively low sales volume and high manufacturing tolerances. He was unable to keep his manufacturer building the two bass drivers, for example, because they couldn't justify it economically.ScottG said:what I don't get is that within the last 3-4 years the price of Jordan drivers to the DIY market has increased almost 50%. and yet did you read Jordan's "blurb" on why they are consolidating distribution to one overseas distributor? Essentially business is "too good"..blah, blah, blah. If thats actually true then D-S-T group (originally Vifa) should provide the drivers to Jordan at a lower price because of the increase in volume. Of couse it could be that D-S-T just decided to price "hike" them, except that the inflated prices were already in place before Vifa et. al. was purchased (..well before actually).
If Ted is still personally working on these, I think you can expect great improvements. I've been using JX53 on some designs, and I think for them to get greater FR range, the Xmax really needs to be increased. The resolution that they provide is really hard to beat even as they are, but in order for them to be of significant improvment over the whole range, it would really be a large makeover from cone to motor. With so many good 3" drivers out there, it's going to be tough.
"The new driver is called the JXr6HD and the performance will raise the bar for wide-bandwidth, moving coil drive units.
The first production batches are now on the way to the UK and to our overseas agents for final assessment. Expect product release and technical details very soon."

this is the secret code for ordering the 1st batch drivers with phone

If i8t mean the size is increased, that is good.
Presumably the 6 refers to 6cm so maybe slightly larger. Main difference is the increased operating range, both at HF and LF. The resonance is down almost an octave and the unit can be used to 100Hz.
They're sending out first batches to agents now so the unit should be available and on the website within the next week or so, I'd hope. I heard an early prototype a year ago and it did sound very good.

The ones I listened to were still the same size with a new chassis the increased cone size means yet a newer chassis. Wonder if the rectangular shape is still used or whether it's changed.
The chassis size is the same but now non-metal and the fixing holes have shifted slightly. The rear magnet is enclosed,as far as I remember, with fixing for the leadout wires formed as part of the chassis. The ones I saw in Ted's lab last summer looked very cool.
Yep, those were still the 53mm cones with the chassis 77mm by 95mm (or 90mm can't remember). But it's hardly likely that a 60mm cone would fit into that chassis.

The old metal chassis JX53 was 95x75mm and newer plastic chassis JX53 was 90x77mm. I think.
I am not sure how Jordan gets these small drivers to have such low resonant frequencies.
Any clue about pricing?
Mini "array" of two to a side, with active bass reinforcement crossed around 100-120Hz, sounds good to me, and if pricing doesn't go up terribly, pretty reasonable.

You'll see when you get them😀
I would love them if they could go down to at lease 80Hz boxed.
an initial test report from Aussie's jordan distributor (decibel hifi)
might give us some hint how to go about using this little gem.
According to them these 2" cone starts taperring at about 200Hz
making it the right spot to XO.However in line arrays perhaps
another approach.
