might give us some hint how to go about using this little gem.
I dont think those have anything to do with the JX6.
I have emailed decibel HiFi (they are local to me) and the specs are suppost to be preliminary for the new JX53. However, as I reported in another thread, I did a quick WinISD model and was not able to get as good a bottom end compared to the old model, which is contrary to reports here.
So I'd suggest waiting until someone can do a real life comparison. I'm hoping I can cross these over at 100 - 120Hz using an active highpass filter and that they have better power handling capabilities than the earlier version (and that they sound better!).

Dean

Price of Jordan Drivers
In response to posting by ScottG and others, I purchased a pair of Jordan drivers from CSS in the middle of 2005. I paid $160 USD each. If you take the time to go to the Markaudio website http://www.markaudio.com/ you will find that Mark is selling these drivers for exactly the same price I paid from CSS.
Since purchasing the drivers I worked very closely with Mark Fenlon on the design of my speakers. Mark's knowledge of the Jordan drivers is exceptional. I purchased items from Mark and all I can tell you is that the service I received was absolutely fantastic, packges were tracked from the minute the order was placed right up to only three days later when it arrived in Ontario from Hong Kong.
I asked Mark for design advice and drawings were delivered. For anyone thinking of building speakers using Jordan drivers, Mark Fenlon at Markaudio is the go-to guy. I highly recommend this company.

Re: Price of Jordan Drivers
about 3 years ago they were a little over 80 US each. Its good to see that they haven't gone up over the past year.. but that wasn't really what I was talking about.

3 years ago the USD was worth about 40%-50% more than it is today....

jordan prices
The slide of the dollar has been tough to cope with. Looks like the Greenback is going to slide some more in the new year. We promise to do our best to keep prices keen on Jordan drivers and find ways to mimimise the exchange effects. UK buyers have paid £85 for the last 4 years. In todays exchange that's $150 USD so we are holding very close. Add in UK more expensive shipping compared to ours, North American buyers can still get a good deal.
We want more audio folks to enjoy using Jordan drivers so we hope to put new pricing packages together in the new year.
Merry Christmas to all.
Mark from Markaudio.

So what does it sound like?
Does anyone have initial impressions of what this new driver sounds like? Compared to the old one? The effect of tuning the low end by varying the cabinet size?

The concept is different but a good one. Small volumes will also help damp out further which is essential for getting clean sound. This works well with the cone concept that the Jordans use. It takes some playing around though. What might be worth a try is having the volume small such that the box volume creates a compliance equivalent to the original driver as a start.
Re: So what does it sound like?
I heard an early prototype in the summer of 2004 and then a production prototype this summer and I thought they sounded very good. The HF was similar to the JX53 - ie smoother and more electrostatic sounding than the JX92 - but the bass was much better than the 53. Whereas I've never been able to get below 200Hz with single JX53s, the JXR6 was much more substantial in the bass - sounding like a proper mini-monitor, in fact. This was in a smallish cabinet on Ted's workbench and the driver wasn't even screwed into place properly. I think this is going to give some Bose-size speaker possibilities.
I've just got hold of a pair of JXR6s and will be building some boxes for them over the Christmas holiday, so I'll be able to report back in a week or two.
Colin
btw, full details of the JXR6 are up on Ted's site.

I'll bet in a small room they'd be magic running full-range, woofers with high-pass.
In a larger room, maybe add a mid-bass from 80 to 500 Hz?

Or you could dispense with the mid-bass and run a linear array which would get them down to the 80Hz region. (The JX53 arrays went down to somewhere around 100-120Hz.)
These should work well for near field monitors or computer speakers (with quality soundcard) using a woofer below 100Hz.

Great idea except for $$$$$$$.Colin said:Or you could dispense with the mid-bass and run a linear array which would get them down to the 80Hz region. (The JX53 arrays went down to somewhere around 100-120Hz.)
If money were no option I'd order eight of the suckers today. 😎

I've been curious about the "mini-array" idea (Jordan array foremost) and found this interesting driver:planet10 said:ditto

Tang Band 2 x 3
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
CTC distance same as Jordan, so presumably would work fine with four to a side. Fs 150Hz, so of course you'd need to cross to stereo woofers. Freq response shows a little burp between 10kHz and 20kHz, not sure what to make of that. At $21USD per, buy-in certainly reasonable although by no means cheap.

Looks like an interesting piece, let us know how it sounds. I doubt you will hear the little hump in the 10K~20K range.
Looking at the plots published by partsexpress, more worrisome might be the dips around 1,500 and 3,000 Hz.soongsc said:Looks like an interesting piece, let us know how it sounds. I doubt you will hear the little hump in the 10K~20K range.
Won't be getting these any time soon, regardless.
I think for best flexibility in choosing full-rangers, build active stereo woofer units first. Then you can experiment with all the various drivers out there, not have to reinvent the wheel each time.

Don't really know how Parts Express test their drivers. But I personally like metal cones better.

Q: for those of you who are using multiple fullrange drivers how do you handle "interpolar interference" or what ever that effect is called when you have 2 high frequency drivers more than a wavelength apart?
I tried using 2 tweeters and cut their flanges so that their domes could be physically as close together and found that there was quite a bit of HF roll off. The speaker however worked well as a center speaker.
