Starting a Purifi 1ET9040 build, advice would be appreciated

I was wondering if someone has done a 1ET9040 build and could share some details? I only have the Micro audio Cobra S1 SMPS set, the 1ET9040 and a pair of the new Neurochrome buffers. That means I will need to source the cabling, switches and enclosures, anyone seen or has an idea where to look? Will be truly appreciated!

Sounds like a fun project. Thank you for your support.

The documentation for the buffer is now online: https://neurochrome.com/products/universal-purifi-input-buffer
I give the part numbers for the power connector in the design doc. I assume the Micro Audio uses the same 6-pin connector as the Purifi. If not, I suggest tossing Sami an email.

The 20-pin ribbon cable can be DIYed or bought from a distributor like Digikey. The connectors are IDC connectors with 2.54 mm (0.1") pin pitch. Something like Assmann H3AAH-2006G would work. Search for the part number on Digikey.com and you shall find.

Dear Tom,

You have no idea how grateful I am to have you, there are very few people who are dedicated as you are, so helpful, so knowledgeable. Thank you from all my heart, makes such a difference in this crazy greedy world...

I would also like to join this thread. My plan is to build four 9040 EVAL4 mono blocks using the Hypex SMPS1200A180. Case choice is the recently heavily discounted mono case from diyclassd. Like the op the biggest obstacle is obtaining the correct wiring harnesses. Ghent only offers their harness kits with the purcase of the eval4 enclosure such is extremely expensive at this time.

That is a great case! I wish the Micro Audio SMPS could fit in there... I had to buy a bigger enclosure and I went for a pair of these:

I will have problems attaching the boards and make two compartments(SMPS on the bottom then in the middle I will use a steel plate for the other two boards) and then rout all the cables, the wall thickness is 8mm and drilling the back for IEC, binding posts and XLRs will be fun 🙁

I was considering buying two of the diyclassd cases and separate the SMPS and the amp/buffer board and stack them but it will not fit for just 5mm...

Working on a cable solution, if I find a source I will let you know, please do as well.

Ah, the new discrete buffer 🙂 It was announced a week after I bought the modules, would have gotten it for sure, supposedly having vanishing low distortion numbers.

Apparently Purifi are working on a DSP controlled SMPS, will be interring to see it.

Mmm, need a bit of advice.

I will have to mount the Micro Audio SMPS vertically on the side(it is mounted on an L shaped metal plate). Since I am aiming for symmetrical layout I will have to make a decision - either make two absolutely identical amps and have the power cables and speaker cables cross outside on one of the amps(hope you get what I mean) or in one of the amps the Purifi module and the buffer will face the component side of the SMPS, on the other they will face the bottom plate of the SMPS thus being shielded by the metal plate…

Which one would you choose? How critical is shielding?

Not really happy with the enclosure. Not all holes fit with openings(at least 1mm off sometimes), scratches here and there, cheap becomes expensive. And it wasn’t cheap…
Did you drill the hole yourself?
I didn't see holes in the pictures.
Though it's not hot as class A/AB amps but I think some vent holes are still good.

Chassis from 清風工作室 on Taobao is great and with some extra money you can ask them to add holes. But I'm not sure if they have English services.
Purifi and Hypex provides mounting position and 3D model so it's easy to draw the holes accordingly.

No, it can preddrillerd. Minor stuff but irritating, the box opens from the bottom, when you place it the most of the holes are ok but 2-3 are off center and you need to distribute the difference to the other ones, you close it but there is pressure. And the bolt heads don't fit, there are chips here and there, the large panels have rounder that does not continue on the angled sides, you don't see those in the pictures...

I would go with the first option, have the plate under the spms act as a shield. It won’t be perfect due to gaps on the side but it will help, provided it is grounded.
I would also add some ventilation holes, prob more for the spms than the amp.

Thanks all! My problem is I already chose to make it as shown in the pictures... One will face the components, the other one will be shielded... Hope that is not a huge difference. Will try to find someone who can help me with measurements later.

If in the USA do not order case kits from Hypex Netherlands as you will be paying 150% in tariffs. Just received an invoice from UPS requesting $647.00 in tariffs for a $400.00 order.
