I really love my F4. Really really. For the sound it yields with a ba3-fe in front of it first, and all those other reasons 6L6 gave above second. I was
originally going to reuse the case it's in for the vfet amp I'm building but changed my mind and decided to just pony up the dough for another case so I can leave it intact. That's how much I like it. And I have some Glassware kits I want to hear with it, and the vfet amp.

I too love my F4. I feed with a John Broskie Aikido 6sn7 into 6sn7. I have a set of Planet10 Frugel-horn XL's with Mark Audio A10PeN. For me, my wife and everybody that has heard this set up, it sounds great in my living room. Right now I am sitting listening to A Windham sampler album while the last of the daylight fades into the light snow falling, while having a nice homemade beer.

You should go diy speakers all the way. I have aluminum driver mtm based off of Jeff B's Denhams with a f6 and ba-3 pre-amp and it sounds fantastic.

Altec 604 & other speakers-VFET and SIT2 amps
I heard a pair of vintage Altec 604 running with a Maratntz 8 power amp/Marantz 7 preamp in Osaka last year and immediately fell in love and plan to build a pair as soon as I have time.
I own most of the original Sony VFET products, a First Watt SIT2 and also am an extremely fortunate owner of a Pass VFET unit (I will be building my own VFET kit as soon as I receive the supplemental kit).
My main speakers are Magnepans (powered by Ampzilla 2000's) but I own a a pair of Celestion Ditton 33s which are magical with the VFETs amps as well as the SIT2 amp.
Other speakers that I tried with less success:
- Focal/JM Labs Tantal just do not match the VFETs but a very nice match with the SIT2 though
- JWM Acoustics NET-1 which normally sound magnificent sound VERY DRY with VFETs as well as the SIT2.

Dennis,
I love the SIT2, it does remind me a lot of some of my tube amps. All my VFET amps (Sony, Yamaha, Pass) have a very distinct sound, I would describe it as "holographic, not sure it makes sense but they truly are different than any device or topology than I'm familiar with.
I do believe the matching preamp has as much impact as the speakers while using VFETs, I find my "Forte Model 2" preamp and my vintage Sony TAE-86 two perfect matches so far.

Hi everyone, can you recommend a diy Pass amp that you think will pair well with these speakers:
ScanSpeak-3W-Discovery
I am building these speakers & would like an amp to pair with it as my next build....apologies in advance, I don't mean to hijack the thread. Just thinking my query is on topic. thanks.

Definitely worthy of any Pass amps.

I'm in love for OB, i'd call it as ultimate solution for PaPa fans who has built more than 1 amplifier. My current cheap speaker set : Alpair 10p on cardboard OB + 7" woofer on BR.
I have aragon2004 which can not compete FW clone (J2, AJ, M2) as bass amplifier, it is strange that I dont even need huge power for bass. While SIT L'amp sounds wonderfull on A10p
OB setup that i will start to build : 2x15" Eminence Beta M-frame + FR (A10p or 12LTA or AN 12").
my dream OB setup : 2xAE15 dipole + FR (Lowther or Voxativ)
for you guys who live in US or EU, it seems that you have alot of options, while here I have a very limited one. But at least we have SBA drivers made locally, I'm waiting for their FullRange product

F6, F5, M2, BA3, F4 provided you already have a nice preamp with at least 15dB of gain, Tweaked Aleph J to deal with 6 Ohm impedance.
That's just for starters
Castle Howard S3 British made classics.
91db with an F6.
An unusual design with an upward firing driver working with the normal pair of front facing.
They work well for me in a large room with very high ceiling.
Music is mostly acoustic folk and female vocal so no need for very loud.
But I do want a very clean but relaxed sound.
6moons audio reviews: Castle Howard S3

All wide range drivers or horns is worst.
See Papa school open baffle speakers on the photo show at BAF.
Horns for smaller single-ended SIT-1 can be wonderful or /4 by quarter reducted Kleinhorns
My future diy project ?
Greetings

prun time
some speakers ,most of them resulted from my two gray cells , all singing well on some sort of Papamp
oldest ones , sorta Voigt cab , Focal drivers ; not much brain in them , luckily copied from net , eons ago ;
then , in my wokshop , venerable RCA LC1B , in MLTL cabs made by ZZZ (as known on Baby DiyA) , driven by Papa's Koan
then Sonido drives based - Sonido 8" FR , helped by Sonido 12" in MLTL bass cab and Fountek ribbon above ; Woland's ( as known on Baby DiyA)
then 12" Tann MLTL for Woland ;
then 15" Tann MLTL for woland
then 10" Tann MLTL for Mighty AR2
then Her's Absolute WAF OB - 15" Tann above , helped with Beyma 15" bellow
in fact , almost any decent spk will work with Papamps ;

I used Threshold s / 160 with my speakers, soon land a new xa30.5, or a 30.8, if the latter is worth the money difference, the speakers are 96db, 8ohms very nice with the amplifiers, the tape adds a lot of softness .. .made by Ramallo ... with Pass amps, it's magic ...
