Gauge seemed not to have a big effect in my case (I ended up with heavier gauge for the woofer, but only as a measure to allow for more power when I go bi-amp).
I'll prepare the post on cables to share my findings. The paper above seems to explain, though.
I'm spending time enjoying these speakers for 20+ months now, so next steps are going really, really slow...
