I finished my OB speakers ( for now before going active ). They have 4 drivers if you count the pasive midrange. I have a 3.5 mH mains choke to the 15 inch and 3u3 250 V to the tweeter and that's it. I have EQ at 100 Hz and 10 kHz. Both about halfway if tone controls on a standard amp. The tidy up is a leg with hinge and paint to rear and wax to front. Also got rid of a tag strip. All the - ve go to the 12 Lta main driver and fan out. The crossover as is, is a piece of silver plated OFC offcut as a busbar. Well I don't know why, it just sounds like I spent much money and have spent none. Amplifiers need star earth and so do speakers ? Paint and wax ? I doubt it. The leg would be worse if anything. £185 so far spent. The size is 2 x 4 feet of half MDF and half ply glued to make about 1 inch thickness.

I have tried using a significant sized scrap of very old annealed boiler copper as the central 'infinite' earth in a cdp dac/output stage.
The same copper also as sizeable plates soldered to the bass driver terminals with input, components and HF driver wiring directly connected.
In both cases an interesting/unusual solidness and clarity in the sound resulted.
I have even considered a flat strip busbar directly connecting the drivers of a two way....it's doable.
With a bit of thought the speaker internal connections could have close to zero loop area/inductance and close to perfect zobel comp networks.

Why do viruses exist?
Just after doing my tax return on the 25 th I went down with the most horrible gastric virus. No mystery as to where it came from as my girlfriend is a care worker. One thing that always got me thinking is why do we get so sick ? It just aids the invader. The real fight back is the immune system that says no to our cells being modified. Which I suspect is well after when we can hold down food again ?
The tax return was done just before it kicked in and I owe about $1.50 ( pay before I forget as I bet the fine is not $1.50 ). Now the crazy bit. It took me three attempts to pay it with my debit card during the bad period. That told me not to drive my car.
I live with a belief system that says nothing we see is without explanation and there can be good in unexspected areas. My speculation is that viruses and life are only one step removed ( statement of the obvious ). It might just be they are the key to mutation ( the speculation )? In the simple sense they will select out weaker humans etc. I read of sea algae that lives symbiotically with a virus. In lettuce the common virus is called mozaic disease. Perhaps a seed from a lettuce like that could be a new type once in a while? I doubt if the plant will include the virus? The leaf patterns would say.
If you had any idea how bad I felt you would doubt my optimism. The fact is in nearly 60 years this rates as a bad one. I guess Ebola starts like this ? My glimmer of hope is it came via an old lady of 98 and she survived. The kids have it despite my strict insistance I kept away from them and washing everything. I have a canal holiday booked on the 8 th, just about time to be over it. I will take precautions not to pass it on as best I can .

Without viruses there would be no mammals. It is viral DNA merged with ours that actually allows pregnancy without the immune system kicking in. We are just part of a big tangled web of life. Wheat has more DNA than we do after all.

when you realise we are just a big mobile hotel for our symbiotes it can be a little unnvering. It's an area that new discoveries are being made in all the time. But the non-human cells on and in us (which is about 90% of you) actually control our health. But we still know so little about how it all fits together. OTOH it was only 1953 when the structure of DNA was discovered, so progress has been fast.
Lets call them they who " live " with us. It's not son wrong to mix them up . As I said to Colleen it is good I caught this as it wasn't the prawns she loves so much. The reason irradiated food wasn't allowed was the toxins remain. Liver damage is then a real danger. I was very worried it was a bacteria. As bad as I felt I was happy it was a virus. Kosher law isn't so daft as I am sure anyone has realised. I often wonder if travelers taught the people health as best they could . Or an advanced civilisation died only leaving it's rules? The latter seems the more likely. Having seen buildings on Crete that look like 17 th centry France and England of people whose names is not known it is possible. Plato's Atlantice myth seems to be suppported by evidence in this area ( the colour of the stones being one ). He was careful to say it came to him from the distant past. The constuction is more advanced than typical Roman buildings that came much later.

Absolutely wrong, on my point of view. While Microbes and bacterias are "living organisms or cells" (they are reproducing themselves and live interdependently with just chemical exchanges with their environment, like us) viruses are not.
Viruses are just information. A little DNA or RNA sequence able to enter in one of our cells and modify its characteristics. Especially, programming-it to re-produce the virus itself.
Very different for our defenses, as, in the first situation, they have to identify and destroy a foreign organism, in the second, like cancer, it is *our own cells*.
Viruses and ourselves both comprise DNA although some virus are even simpler ( not sure to call it RNA ). I would say a resistor is not an amplfying device and a transistor is. The transistor is a transistion resistance device. In analogy a virus is more active than passive. If you speak of conventions of what life is I can not argue. If you read again the only one who said about it wasn't myself or billshurv? I called them ones who treat me as home. Ones being imaginative and generous seeing how bad I feel. As he refered to quantity it must include bacteria. And why not ? As to a virus being life I think that view will change. I have to say I am highly amused you would think I would not know the destinction between bacteria and a virus. I learned that in 1970. Mitochondria come into it. The interesting thing is we had to infer viruses existance as the size is below what could be easilly understood using microscopes. That was truely great science. Before 1900 and related to the Lettuce virus found in Tabacco I think ? The proof being it could pass through a filter too small for a bacteria and infect other plants. Ironically a great killer was the thing they wanted to protect ( I suspect ) .

I suspect why viruses remain non life is that before DNA people made up their minds. Virus was the term used to describe something out there doing harm. " A substance " and the medical profession can be highly protective when saving face.
A friend and his girlfriend split up over Malaria research. She was always at the lab with the DNA sequencer. There was no back up and it was a typical university made machine. She lost her hair. I don't doubt it was stress. Amir and I speculated that we could make an articficial antibody. We were so small in the reality of it that a Frankenstein device was our fear. I put forward how the protein's of the protozoan might be seen. From what I understand this project is just reaching a possible solution, would be nearly 30 years now. Remember Malaria means bad air. Thank goodness electronics started from a stronger base even if electrons are more imformation than substance to some. They have mass so to me they have substance albeit it not in crystal or exactly gas form. I don't remember the lady's name, she reminds me of the one in the DNA story. From what I read Amir and I came close to what is a real solution although not with a micro machine. I am the first to admit I was only a friend of the one doing it. Amir left a £5 note in his PHD as he was sure no one would ever read it. Amir like me is not generous with money ( very not true ). Looking it up EBA 175 seems about right.

You guys are so pessimistic! I just turned 62, and in my life I've been to hotels like you would never believe in Turkey in 1964-1966. You'd probably think you are guaranteed to catch something nasty just by walking into them, but here I am, still going strong, and what got me was not the terrible hotel situatiuon in Turkey in those days, but the products of a developed society, with high tech in even toilet paper.
There are two things you need to do: one is to maintain as high levels of hygene as you can under the circumstances and to eat as varied as you can. Admittedly, in some countries, as for example in Egypt and India, you would be wise to wash all incoming fresh fruit and vegetables in hypermangane, but that's as easy to do as it sounds.

Yes they are. That required very quick action to reduce risk. I think it worked? CJD. So far it looks that it did. For once real experts gave an opinion , it had to be quick. They thougth that the brain is also the nerves. Thus brain and spinal chord removed leaving the rest usable. I eat more beef than ever as it was cheap and I felt OK to eat it. Where were the experts who predicted the obvious results of feeding cows with sheeps brains ? We don't know for certain it was that. Seems very possible.
Prions are not alive ????? You wouldn't guess that ( I accept they aren't ). I might take alive as anything that has a go at me. Mostly the chemicals in the planet leave me alone. "Never mind dear how sick you are it isn't alive. It's mostly your imagination ". Very powerful imagination I seem to have. That virus wants to live just like I do. The fact it has no life without hitching a ride makes it no less less dangerous. " They don't reproduce". They do a dam good job of pretending they do.
