Sound Quality Vs. Measurements

I got into a lot of trouble when liking this turntable from my vested interest friends. It has no arm resonance. It needs a record cleaning machine like the Monks ( or similar , not vacuum cleaner type, nor ultrasonic ) to work properly as there is no stylus to assist. ELP can scan different parts of the groove to find undamaged areas. Imagine Caruso as it was pressed from a low grade disc. Sn ratio is about - 55 db which seems OK, listen for yourself. Personally I find the sound like CD with vinyl easy of listening. Very open. I am told the short comings become obvious when the novelty wears off. I doubt that.

One thing I like is that the stylus drag will not create dynamic wow. Also if direct drive cogging is less likely.

Listen thru all songs is best ...
Interesting ... tape hiss is surprisingly high - but the aspect that intrigues me is the classic, steady degrading of the SQ as a particular snippet of the track proceeds - same old behaviour as always, but I haven't noticed it so prominently in a system for quite some time - anyone else pick it? It's particularly obvious in the House of the Rising Sun bit - starts off pristine, and gradually gets more murky as that segment of sound proceeds ...

Curious you didn't notice it, a.wayne - especially over headphones, should have been quite noticeable - or perhaps you're just used to that behaviour ... 😉

I presume you did use the highest resolution rate - even on 720HD the issues are very clear ...

The SQ variation is so definite it must show some obvious traits - I'm downloading that clip at the highest available rate at the moment, will try looking at, analysing the waveform to see if I can pick something obvious, a telltale signature of the artifact - could prove valuable as a resource for understanding ...

I don't have any such issues with my RR, and i never did notice it when listening to that clip thru the phones will try on desk top tomrw, hopefully not another one of your spells...

You are taking your meds , right ..? 😀

Not necessarily a problem with the RR, in fact pretty unlikely to be - this is more a general system issue, fairly common - I would put my money on the combination of pre and power amp being "most at fault".

The best meds come out of tall bottles, coloured a nice rich red ... 😉
