superberg, the enclosure as you show in your pictures, did that come with heatsinks etc, and is it designed as a power amp enclosure to look like the old Mark Levinson style.

If so do you have a link to the ebay seller, I have had a quick search and can't find anything like it at all.

Gary..

Hi,
Yes it was complete as is, including the connectors. As I mentioned above, originaly it was for a mono-block amplifier Vincent SP-998 http://highend-hifi-shop.de/vincent-sp-998.html
I found one on eBay which looked like a service part or sth, complete box, brand new but completely empty. I wanted to buy another one from the seller but there was no response anymore. I guess I was lucky with this one.

By the way.

I noticed that my J74 are fake. (I do not remember from which supplier)
Transconductance in fake ones is usually like 7mS instead of 28.
How do you think this affects amp performance?

Everyone else seems to give this amp like an 11 on a scale from 1-10.
And I was more like 10- when I wrote my short subjective review.
Could the fake component be the reason?
Both Kessler and HK UTsource have sold me fakes within the last month 🙁 (K363 from Kes and J104 from UT I got fakes of, Kessler had genuine K364 though)

I would guess a lot. At least for my early BA-1 which I recently rebuilt after guessing that fake j-fets were the reason for it sounding kinda dark. Fantastic sounding with correct J-fets. My experience with fake J-fets.

I'm waiting for my Deluxe 4U chassis to arrive. I'm currently looking at various transformer options and I'd like to know the maximum transformer diameter I should be looking at for that chassis. Can anyone who has used it give me a steer?
Thanks

You should take into account the size of the power supply PCB you will be using and also that the Vfet PCB and brackets extend into the case.
It is also important to know the height of the transformer to know if it will fit below the Vfet pcb's or not.
You can mount the PSU PCB above the transfomer as seen in some builds here in the forums.

I would sugest that you wait for the case and check the dimensions with the remaining components atached.

All this said, the 4u case has 360mm internal width, you can take about 100mm for each bracket+ pcb so you should have about 160mm between the two pcbs.

It's a big thread here, but sometime back I think I posted pics of two different sized transformers in the 4U case with the VFET boards attached. As MASantos wrote, the PS board and trafo height will also contribute. Option also for mounting vertically on/against the front 10mm panel if that helps.
