A man and woman are working together in an office.
The woman says 'I bet I can get the boss to give me the day off.'
'Ya, how are you gonna do that?'
With that she hangs upside down from the ceiling.
Boss comes along and says 'what on earth are you doing?'
'I'm a lightbulb' she replies.
Boss says 'You have been working too hard and it is affecting your brain. Go home and rest.'
With that she leaves. The man follows her.
The boss says 'where are you going?'
'I'm going home too'
'Why?'
'I can't work in the dark now can I?'

He has cataracts and doesn't see very well.
His hearing is either very selective or he just can't hear well.
He has a collapsing trachea.
He has an enlarged heart.
He has water on the lungs.
He gets disoriented sometimes.
He is syringe fed meds twice a day, two syringes. He is also on hip and joint treats.
At this point he gets whatever he wants to eat as the Vet says it doesn't matter.
The Vet also said don't buy more than two weeks worth of meds at a time.

That being said, he has lots of love and affection to give. He still lives for his walks and gives back in ways that only dog people understand. Notice I didn't say dog owner. He's the one that owns me. He's owned my heart since the day I met him.

This may not seem enlightening, but to me it is. I get to share my best bud with you guys while I still can, and that's the spirit of the forum, sharing.

I know a bit about Labrador dogs. They, and this is unusial amongst canines, enjoy swimming. If they see water, they jump into it!

Then shake themselves off vigorously when getting out.

It's instinct. Similarly the closely related Golden Retrievers have alert instincts to retrieve dying birds from land or water... let's be honest, they were shot.

Retrievers and Labradors are considered excellent Guide Dogs for the visually impaired. Mandy had a sweet nature, and devotion to duty. Many were the times it dragged a dying bird into the house. A retriever has a soft mouth. My Mother was horrified at such vermin in her house, but I always patted Mandy for doing her job.

However, my Mother who was almost as deaf as a post, found the Sophie the Toy Poodle a better companion. It would yap its head off with any activity at the front door. It was also far quicker than the Retriever at catching tennis balls.

We think it used its ears more than its eyes. It could hear the bounce of the ball! Don't underestimate Poodles. A Hunting Dog in France. Able to leap into the air.
