If you make people believe they are thinking, they'll admire you. If you really do make them think, they won't.
I think I've met people that wold actually do this given the chance. They were, uh, pseudoscientists that thought they knew more than all the scientists at all the universities in the world. In real life, they were dumber than a pallet of bricks but they were very motivated and dangerous. Dangerous, because they wanted to teach their pseudoscience in public schools instead of actual science.
