So i impulse bought a sub. What would you do with it?

I wish I understood all these things. I just simulate, build, measure, ask stupid questions and then repeat

if you hide both of these in boxes, how would you determine the slope of these filters? and if you measured them and they were the same, how could it be possible since they share 0 similarities? would you say that because one lacks capacitors or inductors it cannot be a 2nd order crossover, regardless of how it measures? what if one measures as a 4th order slope but everyone's favorite smart person wrote a paper stating, "if crossovers are located inside boxes with lids and handles, they are 8th order." would you believe it?

how about this... which of these is bp4?

Can you measure your box by placing the microphone at the mouth and surrounding the area in a ‘tent’ of old pillows, foam mattress junk?
i will measure it idk about today tho. my son is playing madden in the theater right now and i dont like messing with measurements when ppl are home anyways. by the end of the week i will post some. as far as pillows? ill just use gating in rew.

I would like to issue a pre-emptive apology for calling you idiots. There is obviously a communication breakdown of sorts happening here. I started this thread because I was interested to see what people would do with a particular subwoofer and it's become an argument over enclosure orders. I don't think there is a definitive interpretation of what represents an order. And I don't think you'll agree. AND I don't care now.

Can't tell the slope of those 2 x-overs, but both those graphs could be ANY TYPE enclosure with a low pass filter since YOU cut off parts of the HR screen.

That is why I go by the physical enclosure to determine the design.

Cool down guys

this thread is going off the rails,
and discussing the order number of designs was not the objective

the old timers did not post much around here and other top contributors passed away already

and when a smart member post an interesting thread we troll him?

lets try to start over and be civilized and polite
otherwise the SUB section will be a ghost town.

Im going to make time to measure this weekend. The power and group delay of this box is akin to a stadium concert to me. It's not nearly as rumbly and diffused but it has that character. It's definitely not a direct radiator, but i appreciate the output, the way it loads the room and some roaring characteristic that I don't really have a name for. I suppose that's why when circlomanen introduced these styles and layouts he named them ROAR. Im going to see Brantley Gilbert tonight at a stadium venue and IDK about you guys but I'm always comparing the sound of my system to live concerts.
