Slewmaster - CFA vs. VFA "Rumble"

Bummer, I just bought Sprint 6.0. My first program like this so I don't know but bummer to hear it is not better now.

A legal 6 might work fine.

"Better" is relative.

I design from the mind. So the user friendly aspects of 6 just get in my
way. 5 is mostly "manual".

The way 6 combines multiple projects in one file is inefficient. It has to re-write
the whole file to make changes to one sub-project.

Macro's made in 6 don't work in 5. What wonderful added functionality
does a 6 macro have that a 5 one does not ? What were they thinking.

I know what ... $$$$ force an upgrade to continue the "racket".
Same with windows 8/10 ... it's just win7 with added useless BS.
win10 will be your next cable (software as a service) bill

I've had Sprint-Layout 6 for quite some time and my system has never crashed while using it.
Just because someone has a bad experience with a program doesn't mean it's not worth the additional cost to some.

Sprint-Layout 5 may be better/faster in some ways. Don't know since I've never tried 5.

Either way, I'm sure OS will get it figured out.

I did not have a standard sprint 6.
I'm not saying it is bad . I'm sure if I bought it , I would get support.

But I've used 5 for 2 years - the whole slew experiance is based on it.
JK used 6 to "professionalize" , but look at my last 5 output - same thing.
The operator is the greatest upgrade , as is the macro artwork.
Version does not matter.

What does that mean? I wasn't aware that Sprint was a free program. It cost me $50.

No , it is not free program (to the masses).

But , I can do as I please.

In the instance of 6 , I'm glad I did not buy it. Not cause it is "bad" ,
but the improvements it has over 5 is not worth 50$.
You get support with your purchase - I have none. 🙁
PS - I'm not using 6 (and have no use for it) , so I am NOT in IP violation).
All copies of software were destroyed.

AMMELL, Find a pre amp that lets you runs a straight signal
and also lets you contour the tone (bass, mid, treble).

The preamp I just removed, had no tone controls.
So I was stuck with what ever EQ was there...for better or worse.
And since it wasn't a servo design...the EQ changes with volume.

I went back to my old tube Audio Research SP-3. : )
You can run it straight or with contour/tone controls
and adjust to taste.

It will be even better when I replace the caps again
These coupling caps are lifeless sounding, not such
a good upgrade....

But in the mean time it's very good with the countour
in spite of the cap shortcomings.

For now I'll be able to listen to amps and see what they'll do
from a personal point of view. Back to fixing stuff.

There is a slew in my future. ; )

Computer stuff:
From what Dell told me, Windows 10 will be more like Windows 7,
because windows 8 was such a catastrophe.

I lost about 1/3 of my programs/software with windows 7. But the
OS works pretty well.

About the only thing that works with Windows 8 are the older office programs
that you don't have to buy all over again, for a time I assume.
BUT just about everything else that I own software wise won't work with win 8.

Any older stand alone hard ware won't interface to windows 8.

Their goal, we all get to pay monthy for software "use".
That is the "good" news.

******** plan, if you care for your kids***************

The "bad" news is, that within the next 25 years
we will essentially become workers for the self-aware
intelligent-computer that we created, it will end up
as some type of self aware "net" entity, and we won't
be able to get rid of it.

This according to the guy that IDed the Human Genome.

Pandora will be opened.

It won't have a conscience, it will think as one collective
entity consuming and living all manner of data and if any
human pissses it off, you will be gone, period end of story.

That will be Pandora, we thought nuclear was bad.

As we continue to connect to the net, our banks, our homes,
our cars, our electric grid, our home alarms, our traffic systems,
the video systems, the facial recognition systems, the cell phone,
the personal communications device, thought recognition sofware,
voice analysis, and on...When we no longer have paper trails and
everything is virtual, Pandora will thrive in the "Darp-net"....

The big computer scientists used to ask,
is the computer the network
or is the network the computer?

Start a plan for life outside the "net" and off Grid.

*************** end of planning **************

All that aside,
the good news is I changed my system around.
Nixed the pre amp and put in my old preamp.
added an unused CD player, and found that
one of the CD connect cables has a flaw in it.

There is a slew in my future. ; )

The even BETTER news, Music keeps us sane.

Thanks gentlemen for all your design and development efforts.

I didn't have any program like this. I tried Eagle but it was too confusing. I love the layouts Jason, Jeff and you have done and you all said you did them with Sprint. So I searched for it and bought it. It will probably be a long time before I have learned enough to use it well but heck, this is a hobby right? I do my best to save money where I can but I tried pirating some software years ago and was sorry I did. "A workman is worthy of his hire." I don't mind paying for a good program and I may need support sometime. I just wish there were some decent video tutorials for this. At least I can print some templates for etching from the sprint files you guys are kind enough share and can now look at and print out gerbers. That in itself has been compensation enough.

Blessings, Terry

I like the Layout 6, subtle changes here and there, I only paid about 35 for it on Sale. The main dislike is the lack of copper pour ability. Other than that it has been a lot more fun and useful than Blue Red Tape and Black holes WORK I had to do years ago.

Look at what the Uni-bomber had to say in his Trieste about the coming age of the Robots and Elites killing most of us OFF:Ohno: But then I could use a Terminator on my side. The Ages of the Machines is coming. I am happy that this message has not been cenXXXXX just recorded by the CIA NSA FBI NASA and the PTA.

I too believe in "A workman is worthy of his hire." I bought the overly
expensive win2K -XP licenses. After that , nothing new was brought
to the table short of buggy, "customer debugged" operating systems.
Vista -totally.... Win7 took till SP2 to be worthy.

I will not pay to debug an unworthy workman's screwup. So my win7
is hacked. Perhaps sprint 6 relies on some "spyware" service I have shut
off in my win 7. GOOD , I would not want it in that case ... anyhow.

One might ask how I stay safe with a windows like that.
Smaller attack surface ....

NO -
Java , Flash , minimal services with tight administrative rules.

BEWARE of 3'rd party software that "raises privileges" and interacts
with various windows services for it's so called "update functionality".

LTspice ... all our beloved software , loves to verbosely communicate
through firewall and administrative exceptions.
I see all this as another window into my stuff. (and a bunch of BS).

They play "games" (and make me pay to do so) ... I play games , too. 🙄

SYMETRI' V1.0

Must give a new "bombproof" IPS to power the "arc welder" edition OPS.

No better candidate than the good ol' "Symetri".

Spooky front end running a new saturation proof LOW Z , non-cascoded
VAS.
Can't find a working project with this VAS on the forum ... NEW !

Can't hurt this thing , a true "clip beatch" IPS. Great for a sub ,
It might also be the "beast" for the IRFP EF2 (or even a BJT EF2).

PS - fully produced on my non-updated LT and sprint 5 .

Can I assume this new input section is a VFA? Do you have to match any components or does the symmetric layout take care of any dc offset?

Without the servo the two CCS adjustments will be more of a factor.
With halfar$e matching of the genders (P/N) at input , similar CCS I
will result in acceptable offset.

Another difference with this one is the doubling of VAS I. The 2'nd set
of TO-126's at VAS do the IPS's error correction directly , not at the input
pairs (like the spook). Saturation is also clamped by this pair.

EF3 I - (5.3ma), will be >20ma. Run it hotter for IRFP or EF2 use and over 30ma VAS I will be generated. I'm allowing more space for a bigger HS.
Slewmaster multipliers are good for over 50ma - no issue here.

Edit- Yes , definitely VFA.
