Simplistic NJFET RIAA

You can't, there are just two regulators to feed. You would need additional external ones with cabling and to hack the board in many places. That will bring unpredictable results, complicating the local grounding also, and I don't recommend it for the PCB version build.

Hi Salas,

I'm the lucky one since I'm going to get Folded Phono Kit.
One of the last-in-stock.
Just got an email from Mike...🙂.
What toroid do I need to choose from Hammond list (attached). They do not have single 36v+36v, but they sale 18v dual (assume 18v-0-18v) that can be connected to single 36V with the verity of currents. I can use two transformers (one for each channel...).
Can you please mark P/N and I'll go to order these. Thank you.

I must say that THAT is a relief to hear

I was speaking in shorthand - I know two regulators would also be required if it was to work.

The circuit looks too much like a FIRST WATT amplifier and I know that cannot be split.

The gymnastics we will attempt for a smidgen better sound - that in the immortal words of an AA poster who reminds that a slight turn of one's head swamps the change I would go to so much trouble for.

One of these days I will learn.

You could try and compare to a simple raw PSU some common mode chokes or CLC filtering for instance, KM in line multipliers per raw DC feed in the phono box, different passive parts, whatever, if you would want to play. But hacking the grounding and adding loop area via external reg extras, hmm dangerous to lose the resolution gain that the standard arrangement provided over p2p to Botte for instance.

Hi Lourenco

IMO you should use at least two 80VA TX... one for each channel.

It seems too much, but the folded will really sing in the end.

If you need help choosing the best cap / resistor values for the riaa filter I can help.

PS: How is Rui doing ?

Hi Ricardo,
Thanks for your message, I remember from some earlier posts on this project, that you were using 80VA transformers (1 for channel), with great results, thanks for the tip, as I really want to build one lasting RIAA.

I would appreciate very much your help in choosing the best components for each position, because otherwise I will just go to Partsconnexion or the likes and buy parts, more for their brand name than for better performance.

As for Rui, it has been a while since I spoke with him, I believe is now more related to other local builders like JP amplifiers and so on, and taking things more commercially.

I really wanted to escape this "world" which locally is a bit strange to say the least, and avoiding being confused with someone making a leaving out of this. I am happy building some things for me as an hobby and for my own use (of course sometimes I try to sell something I built to a friend, just to help me sponsor the next project, otherwise my wife will fire me). I will remain at my day job which is what I like to do.

Hope you are doing fine with your projects.
KR.

Hi Lourenco

I will be glad to help you. Please keep us posted on whatever parts you allready have and we will surely help you get the most of it.

I agree that high End world in PT is quite strange... hopefully we do not need it to build the best possible sounding devices.

I am looking forward for your up comings because I already have seen some of your projects and you really are very good at it 🙂

Thanks again Ricardo,
Thanks also for your kind words on my projects, also saw and heard some of your RiAA and I like them a lot.

The only parts I have presently, are the 2 PCB's gently sent by Teabag from the recent GB, also all the needed fets and transistors, 2 Russian FT3 0,1uF caps already at home since a long time, which I don't if will be used, and that's it.

I have read the very good Salas instructions and saw some ideas on some components, like Vishay resistors for R1 and R14, like some caps and so on, but I haven't created a list to try. Would be most appreciated with some ideas.

Again thanks for your support.
Are you presently in Portugal?

Its a 18 + 18 (4 wires secondaries) global primaries series. So its flexible. 182H18 will do.
Not that economical a series though. Each one costs as much as an FSP stereo PCB.

I see your point about the budget and I agree that 1 toroid will be a more economically and ergonomically better option. The issue is: I cant find it so far on internet in US. I'll appreciate if you will direct me to some site as you did with EPCOS cap.
Thank you.
