Simplistic NJFET RIAA

3x 1.7V LEDs per shunt CCS as in the schematic. You can use 470R 20W dummy load resistors for test before you are going to hook up your amplifier's driver stages. They will consume 95mA and will dissipate 4.5W. I am off now, going to listen to a very good TT (Pink Triangle) and our circuits, at a friend. Gonna bring back some photos to post. See ya!

Just reporting that I have rebuilt my 'Salas RIAA' and replaced the Wima FKPs with Russian 0.3% silver/mica and Teflon caps. (Pics below). Large caps - the layout has extended further into the third dimension, with caps towering over the dead bug fets.

Wonderful improvement apparent already, although when I first switched it on the bass was so excessive I thought there must be something wrong with my wiring or with the cap values. It settled down after a while, and I concluded that it must have all been too much of a shock to the poor Russian caps - after years of slumber in a Soviet military store 😱 😱 😱 they are suddenly transported to England and asked to play American music through a RIAA stage designed by a Greek. 😱 😱 😱 Next challenge for them: Charles Lloyd, "Fish out of Water".

Happy listening to all-
John

Teflons - 2 in parallel for series RIAA caps.

What a coincidence! I just came back with a couple of those! I want to try them for inter stage coupling in the RIAA. You are appointed as the official burn in authority and sonic compatibility reporter before I remove the CCCP Polysterenes and try those. :smash: Please let me know if I must do the operation doc!:clown:

Nice TT , carbon fiber matt?
your friends need clean better the LP🙂

the psu for TT are another question to answer! a simple caps to derive 70-90Vac for motor.......is important isolate the motor from 220v ? (x2-common mode coke-x2)

Salas do you have a shunt for motor?:clown:

Nice pics! And... how was the sound? Any comparisons with something else?

Great sound. Open, natural, very informative, and deep, vibrant.
Compared some vinyl to same CD albums. The CDP is a Marantz upgraded with all the stuff in the digital forum here on DIY com about it... There is a piano, seeming well and nice on CD. Then you play the same on vinyl. Well, you realize that the first one was a toy piano without any enclosure. Etc, etc.

That is precicely what I am searching for Salas.

Actually my severely modded CD53 has much more body than the TT.

I really need this jfet RIAA.

Maybe I should try to do one PTP as Lee seems to be too busy right now.

Already ordered the 170BL and need to source the RIAA caps.

Do you have some spare caps I could use ?

Ricardo

Yes, carbon fiber mat, upgraded ZI spec arm, Origin Live DC motor and DC PSU. So no AC tricks. But if you ask in general, build a Geddon. 500VA trafo good 0.2uF cap for 90 deg phase lag. I have listened with just isolation trafo and yes, the best benefit goes to AC motor TTs.

I have thought about shunt for DC motor. Problem is that they ask for 2-3V and Mosfets open higher. So I must do it with BJT.

Music's over.😎
