If we speak about -110V and +179V - there is no need to have virtual midpoint as far as we have true midpoint (the ground). How he is gonna get a virtual zero midpoint when the two voltages will be asymmetric? Anything connected at that point will be on a large DC voltage difference then. Isn't it so?
Salas used two 4.7uF 450V old Auricaps in the SSHV2 for C2 powering The Itch, wow but difference.
Making parallelism changes to lower inductance also
I think Mundorf sgo are two caps in one pack.
The diode on my newly completed SSHV2 doesn't light up. No current and no voltage out. I've built several before and have had no problems whatsoever. What parts are the most likely culprits?
If you have no voltage out at all (with a dummy load), then i would say that one of your DN2540's are toasted or dead... because if you remove the shunt part, then the DN2540's should work as a regular current source...
O lord! It's going to be much work removing those DN2540's. At least the one attached to the cooler.
You should follow the standard checks like trying the CCS with low input voltage first. There is troubleshooting guide example link in post #1
When i toasted one of my DN2540's they still worked fine with 12v, but not with 200V input..
Problem could also arise if you have high CCS current set, together with a transformer that have lower current rating on secondaries... but i would still think you should have a little output voltage at least....?

When I changed the DN2540's I got current and voltage but still no light and no reactions when adjusting for current and voltage. Or rather the voltage changed when I adjusted the current. Crazy. I tried another unused SSHV2 from the same older batch, and that didn't work either. My newer 4 works perfectly and are built excactly the same. I think it must be a problem with a series of components bought from Teebag. I need to contact him to see if he has some more kits for sale.
Just for dobbel checking... When you connect to circuit you connect +/-F and S are as they wore... Wire from S to -/+?
The sensor needs to sense.
The +ve of the sense goes to the +ve side of the load.
The -ve of the sense goes to the -ve side of the load.

I need recommendations for best bypass capacitors for the Solen 10uF that's in the kit from Tea-bag. I've tried russian teflon and Mundorf silver oil and I like them both for different reasons (and different recordings) but maybe there is something better out there. Anybody tried V-cap Cutf?

I used two 4.7uF Auricaps in parallel & sounds very good.
Thank you for the tip. How is the sound relative to other capacitors you have tried? Are they much better than Solen?

Hi. I did not build Salas HV yet, however I build bunch of reflectors and SSLVs. Out of many caps I tried the best cap for SSLVs zobel was Mundorf EVO Oil. It had the nicest and smoothest sound.
If I were building this board I would personally try Mundorf EVO Oil 10uf without any bypass. It is not big cap and should fit nicely in this position. Reasonable price compering to results.
However its sonic improvement/signature was only heard when SSLV was used in gain stages, so I would expect same rule here.
Yes.... On B+, goes S and F+ rest goes ground
Kelvin wire connection
