Simple Killer Amp Constructor Thread

Gents,

The RoboEgglayer mentions on his homepage that he just arrived in Brisbane, even a picture with the comment that he doesn't have a desk yet.

My brotherinlaw handles Australia for the world's biggest cleaning company, and frequently hops down under carrying a laptop.
The G/F has a medical convention in Oz on the scheduler, laptop included.
Quite a number on this forum are frontier hoppers, short- or longterm.
Witnessing too many suckpuppets may lead to becoming oversuspicious.

Milan's response to AT was pretty amusing though.
We can agree that his credibility is unquestioned.

Hi All
Yes, Brisbane Queensland ... beautiful one day, perfect the next 😀
Sorry, that just made me think of Monty Python and their 10 rule Bruce skit. I am sure that I can translate the Bruce skit into a Brisbane skit.
Let’s see 😀
Rule Number 1. Everyone shall live in Brisbane
Rule Number 2. No one can live anywhere else
Rule Number 3. Everyone shall live in Brisbane
Rule Number 4. You can’t live anywhere else
Rule Number 5. Everyone shall live in Brisbane
Rule Number 6. Can’t be anywhere else to live
Rule Number 7. I didn't know Canada was in Brisbane? Maybe just a picture of Canada is in Brisbane
Rule Number 8. Everyone shall live in Brisbane
Rule Number 9. Not in Sydney, no,no,no
Rule Number 10. If you haven't lived in Brisbane then you don't know what you are missing  maybe :hot:
As Big Kev would say "I'm excited", but he wasn't from Brisbane or Queensland :cannotbe: shish!!!

Good one Robotbreeder,
Look forward to seeing a picture of your completed GB150D's and reading about what you are hearing 😀

Have you employed robots to help you with the amp and speaker projects 😎

Hey jacco
Who said robot's lay eggs ... hmmm, maybe they are nano robots which unite through coopertive association and well meaning thoughts and intent, too become massively huge robots to help mankind with our many endeavours

live long and prosper :yinyang:
thanks

Wow - sensitive!

Hello All,

I'm Robotbreeder, not sure where the egg-laying component was inspired from 🙂. Not a frequent poster, but a long time lurker. Yes, i breed robots. There's a few crawling around right now, in fact.

Yes, i'm in Brisbane, but i haven't been for long. Originally from Vancouver, i decided on the GB150D's from chilly Canada. I have no association with Greg Ball of GB150D fame, other than i met him after purchasing a kit from him. You only have to look at the photos on my website to see that i came from Vancouver 🙂

So, if the mods delete my posts because of a suspected association, i'd rather have breakfast with Facists.

This DIY audio project has been a weird succession of coincidences. I researched for a good 4-5 months on an entire DIY system, to compete with my commercial setup. Months of speaker investigation, DIY cables, amps. The lot. From Vancouver, i decided on the speakers: RAW HT8's, and the amps, GB150D's. I did not then know that the speakers were designed only blocks from where my Dad lives, and the amp guru lives only miles from where i was to move, on the other side of the planet. Honestly. Life is strange sometimes.

So here i am now in Brisbane, working on the speakers, and working on the amps. I've visited Greg and listened to his little wonders, amazed at the performance and value i purchased a set.

I believe his product is fantastic, genius really, and he's been exceptionally helpful regarding my construction blunders and constant questions.

Other than that' i'm just some guy who researched DIY amps and decided on the GB150D's - while i was 11,000 km away.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions regarding the build. I've taken them into consideration. Before settling off on case construction, i'll be doing some computer renders of potential designs (like i did with the speakers - check my website) and would love your feedback.

Cheers,
/AdamM

Hi Robotbreeder
Excellent, simply excellent 😀
Hope you like the way I precised your post :xeye:

Now, I like the idea of these nanorobots.
Seriously, have you breed any of those yet 😎
I think AndrewT might even be able to assist here. He is most definitely a man of many talents, also 🙂

IMHO, you have made an excellent choice of amp. Why, because I have the GB300D and I have just said so, so that's good enough for me and Bobby McGee, and hopefully moamps, jacco, and of course Greg, also. :hot: Not sure what moamps post is alluding too :clown: but as a fellow I know always says ... its all good 🙂

Look forward to seeing your computer renders. Will you be posting pictures of them. Hope so 😎

Yes, Life, the Universe and to go where no man has gone before ...
thanks

KLe - did you find a reasonable box to build your SKpre into? I'm still searching. I want metal for shielding but it doesn't need to be large as the two modules are only 50mm across and 75mm deep and I'll be using a plugpack external to the box for low hum.

any suggestions?

Hi HiFiddle
Yes, I was looking for a nice metal enclosure, but, haven't found one, yet!
So, for ease of use I have decided to start with a plastic impact resistant ABS enclosure.
To ensure a low noise floor (and low hum), I will using a wall wart initially, at least until until I find a nice plug pack (or I make one) 🙂

I should have it finished and running this weekend 😎

thanks

Why did you do that? 😕

How will Adam see my post over there.
He won't even know to look over there?

I moved the post because this is about constructing the SKA. Trading is for Trading Post.

Adam will see your post because I posted a link to it in this thread.
All very obvious to me. 🙂

Thanks guys, I was hoping for a wonderful turnout! If there were doubts as to the credibility of the major part of this thread, they are effectively blown up to mural size now for everybody to lo and behold. Your artistry is truly amazing. 😀

Regards,
Milan

No, its your imagination thats truly amazing.

KLe, I had a look at that - but it's huge for two little line stage PCBs - it's bigger than my GB150D power amp!

I'm thinking something about 300mm x 50mm high faceplate and about 150mm deep at the most, since it doesn't need to house the power transformer.

Might have to fabricate...
