!00% good on both Firefox 28 and Safari 6.1.2 between 8.00 am and now (13.57) GMT. I am located not far from Andrew T.
Just posted in Firefox 27.0
The usual confirmation froze on screen. Opened Safari and could not open the link from my mailbox to a subscribed topic. Opened DIYAudio homepage…..opened immediately and my post refered to above had been posted 4 minutes previously, although the FF browser page which I had left open had still not loaded the confirmed posting page.

Hi Andrew. Very sorry to hear you are having problems and thanks for the report. I would like to re-state that there is really no point posting a notice of your having a problem without following the instructions I have given twice now in this thread. Please save the information or print it off so you can follow it to make your next report. I appreciate you taking the time to make the report, but please make a complete report so I can use the information in a useful fashion. Thank you very much.
Having clean installed the system on my reformatted start-up disk, updated Firefox (to FF 27 beta) and Safari, I have had no problems, other than slight delay in on-page links opening or - a couple of times - freezing. It seems that most of my recent problems were in my own system. There was also an intermittent problem with my ISP which was cleared at their end.
I have given you the time it happens, the message displayed while waiting, the operating system and the browser.Hi Andrew. Very sorry to hear you are having problems and thanks for the report. This is the important bit. Copy and save this link,
Website speed test
You should see this (below), and if you enter diyaudio.com into the box and hit "Test Now" you should get some results.
If the site seems down altogether or taking ages to do anything then try this as well using diyaudio.com as the address to test.
Down For Everyone Or Just Me -> Check if your website is down or up?

That's exactly the problem. It's as useful as trying to clap with one hand. Add one more hand and you have something altogether different.
I really do thank you for being so proactive on reporting your problems, and I hope that you value my time enough to make three little bookmarks in your browser bookmarks for:
so you can post that information with future posts.
If this bit is important to you solving your site's server problems, then tell me the key strokes to be able to post that information.1) The result of both Down For Everyone Or Just Me -> Check if your website is down or up? and Website speed test
I have posted 113, 117, 120, 125 since you asked for time+opertaingsystem+browser+errormessage
You said nothing about ignoring these reports until yesterday.
I have been reporting your site's speed problem for years. It has taken you a long time to respond.

No need - if you are unable to easily follow those instructions please kindly refrain from posting further in this thread. I can't make it any simpler than I have.
We have multiple layers of problem detection on the server, with remote service quality service providers, and our host. We have graphs, logs, checks, email and instant mobile reporting of urgent problems. We also have very useful reports from other users which help to correlate all those data points. Between all that and the very useful reports from other users, there is plenty enough to help me work on any problems that arise without me spending time trying to work out if your ISP is having a hiccup.

The site has had occasional speed problems since its inception 15 years ago. Most of the time, it runs smoothly. Sometimes there are things within our control, sometimes beyond our control, and sometimes there aren't problems at all.
I made it clear in post 102 and again in post 109 exactly what I need to be able to act on a problem report. I'm very sorry that you failed to read or understand those posts, but no matter - please refrain from posting in this thread again.
Thanks.

Today at 10:17 New York Time. Site disappeared from the radar. Only got to try one site checker but that reported down.
Pingdom result is bizarre but does it point to or mean anything. Look at the date and time on it. January 1st 00:00
Running W7x64 and using IE11 in 64bit mode.

Thanks for your excellent report.
There was a very long, extended and atypical CPU spike at around that time, lasting about 10 minutes. It was not database related, it looks like a rogue forum spammer trying to flood the website with spam. Apache logs from that time show a single IP address (from Paris) maxing out all our Apache processes, trying to download the whole website in parallel, and simultaneously trying to post hundreds of new replies. The same IP address is blacklisted on some spam databases, indicating it came from a server also used for wholesale spamming, or could be a home computer, networked device like someones home router or web server that has been compromised, trojaned and assimilated into a botnet. These days even security cameras are being taken over for nefarious purposes.
Load balancing to protect against DOS at our scale is a bit difficult and my work in implementing that previously have had unwanted side effects (blocking people out) but I'll revisit at least a single IP overload filter. This won't block DDOS (flood via different IP addresses) but at least will help with DOS (a single IP, kid in his basement kind of scenario, which I think this was).

Thanks for looking into that glitch Jason. At least it seems there was an identifiable reason for this one.
Whether opening DIYaudio from a subscribed thread email or from bookmark, I can usually get to the direct link without trouble. But links which I use from within that page usually hang. Also when posting the screen hangs yet if I reopen the site the posting appears to have gone through pretty quickly.
I have pinged the site, and that shows fast response, so the problem is either at a deeper level or in my browsers(Safari & Firefox28) /system/ISP etc. Using Mc OS 10.7.5
I do not have this problem with any other sites.

I haven't noticed anything specifically today. This thread opened instantly from the email notifier... I haven't posted this afternoon so lets see how quick this goes through.
Edit... that appeared instantly. Too quick to measure, I would say under a tenth of a second.

Please can you do as Jason asks (read post 102 and 109) 🙂
Bookmark the Pingdom web test page and then you can access it in an instant next time you have problems.
(also something that might help in your situation... switch OFF your router and then clear ALL your browssing history from all browsers. IE/Firefox etc. Clear all your temp files (run a disk cleanup).
You say you are using Windows 7 like Andrew. Carry out a local flush of your DNS cache HERE
Restart your router and see if the problems are resolved.
