Balder Frequency Responce
looks nice flat but it could use a bit of low frequency extension

adason,
My guess is the FR chart is driver only response and doesn't include the port response - hence the rolloff around 70Hz. My guess is the speaker will go a lot lower.
Merging in the port response is difficult since the merge is only meaningful at the port maxima / driver minima (known phase between the two).
Cheers,
David.
hey gilly, l have the thors ( original design ) and am thinking of either making fat thors or somthing like what you have done, were your thors the stock ones and also do you intend to get rid of them now you have these? ......l find the thors nice but sometimes a bit bland with some music.....whats your take on this?
cheers ken

I have the original Thors, I have never found them bland. They are lacking a bit of mid range, in comparison to the balder.
What sort of cross over components are you using in your Thors?
I will be keeping my Thors and using them as the rear speakers for 5.1.

l suppose bland is a bit strong.....they are great most of the time, just they really arent tolerant with some music, being so accurate ......dont know what xovers are in them as they were custom parts sourced here in australia...done to spec though.
l need 2 more speakers eventually to go 7.1 so l might do a different design ( maybe similar to yours ) using these drivers..a bit more midrange would be nice 🙂

A quick note about the Balders, they are not as forgiving / tolerant, as the Thor's are.
As usual with anything, the better speaker you build, the less forgiving they are, being they are more accurate with higher resolution etc.

l'll have to see if somone over here has built them and have a listen, a guy l've met has orions which l must get to listen to soon as well.............
