Hi there
Has any one built, or heard, the Seas Balder? It's similar to the ex-emotion kit but designed by Seas I think? It uses these drivers:
Seas W26FX001
Seas W15CH001
Seas T25CF002
Bass is vented and the mid-tweeter is open baffle.
I am thinking of building these so would appreciate any feedback or comments.
Thanks

Hey Gilly,
Sorry I can't help on the system - but I too am interested in a Seas system.
Where's the best place to buy Seas drivers? I've found an Aus supplier but they haven't replied to my emails.... MAdisound otherwise (but guess the shipping alone could be $200+)
David.

Hi there, Madisound is the best place to get the Seas Drivers from, as far as we are concerned. In the past I have bought audio parts from Australia and it works out to be more expensive than getting them from the States. It doesn't make any sense but that is the way it is.
These look very similar to the nola/alon open baffle speakers. The major diference being a sealed bass enclosure. I have a set of alons that sound exceptional. Good luck with your project.

I have a set of Alon II's, not the highest in the alon/nola line but still exceptional sounding speakers.
Brilliant imaging and soundstage, excellent dynamics and very laid back for a metal dome tweeter design.
But, they showed their age last week, the 10" paper woofers seperated from the surrounds and ripped some of the material next to the voice coil. I may have been pushing the a tad hard...
Of course I am at least mildly biased regarding the alons.

It is worth to check Troels Gravesens Acapella SEas.

I have read lots of positive things about this speaker.

Hi,
Check out Tony Gee's excellent work, like the Modulus speaker, open baffle Seas mid and a boxed Seas woofer:

Also the Progress diary might be an interesting read:

Hi Gilly,
Looking forward to the photos... I got my L26/L15/27TBFCG shipped from Madisound. Shipping was only $USD97 so was pleasantly surprised!
Dave.

I don't know about international shipping, but Zalytron seems to have better prices (at least on the W26FX than Madisound:

There is a thread about this driver in which I recently posted some links I've found on the web about this driver (not a whole lot, but all positive). In general, I'm also interested in whatever I can find out about this driver. You can see the other post here:

Hi Gilly,
I won't build the balders using excel drivers, in fact I haven't yet decided on baffle geometry / enclosure types for the L26/L15/27TBFCG. I will need to read more about open baffle benefits - esp. for midrange.
BTW - those cabinets look fantastic! How have you finished them? (veneer wrap or some sort of timber?) Are you porting the W26?
Cheers,
DAvid.
