SEAS A26 Devore Style Build

Small update today! I have the back box glued up, baffle is just sitting in place now.

This is planet10s sealed golden ratio ov81 from the great plans posted earlier.

The baffle cutouts are a bit off from plans, as I measured the baffle dimensions, not figuring out that the plan included the side dimension

I plan on finishing these, measuring, and if they work well in my space building a second front baffle properly out of a solid wood or something fancy.

@planet10 do you recommend additional cabinet panel dampening, or stuffing for this build?

I have dynamat sheets, acoustical foam panels, and acousta stuff on hand, however I'm hesitant to add extra treatment as the bracing really stiffened the cabinet dramatically, and i don't want to change the internal Volume.

Stuffing yes (the A25 is very heavily damped with rockwool), panel damping will degrade the resonance behavior of the box — it adds mass without adding stiffness wich lowers potential resonance in frequency andbroadens the Q making it both easier to excite and easier to hear.

Low density damping (like poly “sheets”) over th eholes inthe holey braces is more effective against side-to-side resonances than damping on the walls.

The Seas 2-way remind me of sealed AudioNote type J, and even Snell.

I like the look of those system7. I will ask kindly. A plus for me, is the A26 with super easy looking crossover. Not overly challenging to my first try......

I'm down with the simple monolithic style of the boxes secondly, style wise they all have great eye appeal.

Keep the ideas coming 🙂 At this rate I shouldn't have trouble choosing on a project.

I am not a big fan of the ANs, been a long time since i seriously listened to them. The biggest objection are the insane prices.

The 10” driver will certainly move more air which is often asscoaited with dynamics, but everythng else before (and the room after) play a role.

I heared that floorstander AN with the 8" (the AN-E SPE i think) and was not impressed neighter. The cabinet resonate in all kind of unwanted ways and the dispertion of the drivers was very uneven as if the crossover was not time aligned and the 8" was crosssed to high. I don't know why people pay so much money for those. It was at a high music shop with fairly good acoustics in the listening room and when they put the LS50 (the speaker my friend had, to compare) out next to it sounded a lot better. And that is a little bookshelf that cost a fraction of the AN... But at the end the friend i was helping to choose went for Harbeth M30.2 that sounded the best to him and to me in that shop and he is still happy with those after a few years.

I'm anxiously waiting for updates on this build, especially measurements.

I've almost started making sawdust on this kit quite a few times and I keep going back and forth between building this golden ratio sealed cabinet or the original vented cabinet. Thanks for being the first, that I'm aware of, to take the plunge and build this sealed style cabinet. I really hope it works out favorably and give me the incentive to get started on my own pair.

I was able to get both crossovers wired and installed the woofers tonight for a maiden run. First impressions are good! I listened for an hour in my workshop while cleaning up. I have no measurements or critical listening yet. Need to install stuffing and start measurements with my dats, and rew. This is the cat 378, golden ratio.

Some very quick measurements @ 1m in the workshop. I'm getting an odd crackling in the mid/high end when they first start playing anything, or after a quiet segment... both speakers are doing it. I'm not sure if its my test gear (cheap class D integrated) or maybe something in the crossover I've buggered up, take the measurements with a grain of salt. Smoothing set to 1/6.

This is still with no stuffing, I want to figure out the electrical issue before getting too deep with the tuning. Open to suggestions for hunting down the crackle.

I'm wondering if maybe I overdid the magnet pressing on the rear brace causing coil rub? hope not but I'm at a loss otherwise.

While the A26s are in the box waiting for their turn...

Are there any advantages to using T35 Exotic over Morel 375?
Just found them on sale (slightly used) for half the price. But I could not find any information regarding their comparison even with Excel T35

Dave,
A quick use of the T/S parameters published on the Purifi website shows sealed will work and yield an F3 of 56 Hz @ Q of .707 in a 20L enclosure. Not bad but for that money I'd want better. It probably wants ported enclosure to do its best. It' looks like it will do low 30s ported in around 37L.
