Sean Connery Dies At 90

Bit of a costume disaster for Sir Sean in the film Zardoz, but at least he got to play alongside Charlotte Rampling!

Watch out for his hand Charlotte! 😀

Know very well the Talisker(s), all the Islays seems distilled there ??? My prefered smokey is the Caol Ila... while I like the Laphroag for its force and brutality which is quite nice while a little of neutral water is added .

@sys7... Ah Zardoz... forget this one I saw again maybe 2 years ago ! What a movie !

Just speaking for myself. I'm 47 yo, more or less grew up with the Roger Moore era. I knew this guy well, I still have maybe 20 VHS tapes of him as 'the saint', recorded during the re-run 80's on that sort of obscure tv channel that did that thing.

I also grew up with the idea of James Bond. Great thing right. I was attached to it as much as Moore and his 'Saint' stint. The good guy.

Looking back on Connery though, he wasn't always the good guy, and that was really (imo) the heyday of what Bond was. Sorry for not recognizing what SC did after Bond, but that really was the crux of his identity.

The bittersweet part about looking back upon his passing though, is that he was perfect for the role. I should mention, I had all the Bond movies on tape too, but with whatever perspective I possess today, the entire series peaked too early. Dr. No, Russia, Goldfinger... these could never be replicated. Art in time.

Of course the series went on, why would it stop. It's just that the quality of intrigue, the injection of comedy (Moore's little weapon) is what made it remain so palpable, but different. With the times.

I don't mean to eulogize Sean Connery, his Bond died so long ago, before even Never Say Never. And i really have no attachment to any of his works past that.

But bt you and me, 'Bond" was the first three flicks, and nothing more than a desire to keep it alive. Thank goodness there were those movies, to define our best guys.

You like comedy, look at OS117 with Dujardin which is an secret agent parody. The one with Peter Sellers was great as well.
For me never Bonds that follow weared the role as good as Sean Connery. Moore was drole but defintly too much british parody cause the too much sense of humor involved while he could not play the other dark side that needs testosterones. Ultimatly Connery weared the suit better than More, making him more elegant. After More it was worst and worst, the american was between the bolocks movie parody with too much testosterone and looked like a cars seller. Timothy was definitly lookink like a Toshiba printer Seller and the last that is nearer from Sean on the musxle side looks like more a bodyguard...LayersCake was definitly a better movie than the Bonds. Third rank of the best Bond actor...not bad. Sean Connery...inimitable...best Bond ever for my tastes. Well the elegance of american and european wears from that time helped a lot...now suits look like banana wears, just a liitle better than leggins...

Anyway my fav is Moonrawker...a great Bond for me. All is good here, the french mechant is one of the best of all Bonds mechants. Moore is more than ok in thisfilm, here Sean Connery would have been not bettet. Think it was scriped sur mesure for Moore.

I was an extra in Entrapment, filmed in Kuala Lumpur
Cool! 😎 For how long do you appear in the film, David?

I read that locations for Entrapment included Duart Castle, Blenheim Palace, several locations in London, the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur and the Bukit Jalil LRT station.

I'm in danger of turning into a bit of a film geek here! :cheerful:

Since he is THE Bond... it might be worth mentioning Margaret Nolan too:

The actress and model, who was famously covered in gold paint in the James Bond movie Goldfinger and also appeared in The Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, died at age 76 on October 5. 2020.

I was under the impression that the 'golden' actress was Shirley Eaton.

Apparently, Margaret Nolan appeared in the title sequence of the film.

Gosh I remember that scene as a kid; "Dad, why did she die from being painted in gold?" Dad (matter of factly) "He skin couldnt breathe". Me (wondering silently) "Your skin needs to breath too?"
