I' ve used both PVA and PL premium. I don't generally have problems with gaps, so that is not am issue. PVA has an open time of ~10 minutes and set time of less than 1hr. PL has an open time of nearly an hour and a set time of close to 24 hr. So, you wind up working differently. With the PL, I can glue up five sides of a box at once, particularly since it doesn't require a lot of clamp pressure. With PVA, I can only do top, bottom and two sides in the first pass. The third side goes on after he initial assembly sets.
Of course, everyone has their own technique.

Hello Scott and others.
The brace is in contact with the wall about 85% of its length; I was just a little concerned about the remaining 15%.
I'll do as you all suggested, which should eliminate the problem.
Thank again.

This is why I converted to using cleats and blinds nails. I hate waiting for things to set up. 🙂
