Hello there,

I am looking to make a tall thin ported 2 way ported floor speaker (41" tall, 8" wide, 10" deep) with an internal volume of about 1.25 cubic feet.

Tweeter is going to be a Peerless XT25BG60-04 with a Monacor WG-300 waveguide.

I have been working with a SB Acoustics 6" SB17MFC35-8, but the cone breakup and non-smooth roll off isn't working out the way I wanted it to.

I was thinking of trying the Monacor 6" SPH175HQ instead. It seems to have a better roll off and not as much cone break up.

What do you think?

Thank you,

David.

I agree, the sph175hq looks good on paper, nice roll of both on and off axis, i like this behavior better then sb acoustics very extended freq response on axis and normal drop off axis.
But i am not sure if a ported box works best for the monacor, driver parameters suggest a closed box in my opinion, in room response is at risk to be a bit peaky with a vented box

Do you have actual measurements of the Monacor driver? Monacors FR graphs are notoriously smoothed, blurred and generally low-res.

Sure:

for more measurements:

MONACOR SPH-175HQ (Mid-woofer 6.3/4", 8 Ohm, 120 Wmax)
