Hello there,
I am looking to make a tall thin ported 2 way ported floor speaker (41" tall, 8" wide, 10" deep) with an internal volume of about 1.25 cubic feet.
Tweeter is going to be a Peerless XT25BG60-04 with a Monacor WG-300 waveguide.
I have been working with a SB Acoustics 6" SB17MFC35-8, but the cone breakup and non-smooth roll off isn't working out the way I wanted it to.
I was thinking of trying the Monacor 6" SPH175HQ instead. It seems to have a better roll off and not as much cone break up.
What do you think?
Thank you,
David.

You may want to give crossover details so others may help. I've found the SB17MFC is good to work with and roll off is easily handled in the crossover.
I forgot to mention, I am making this is for a regional audio club show and tell where there is a limit to 5 crossover components. Woofer will have to be a second order electrical with nothing else... 🙂
I agree, the sph175hq looks good on paper, nice roll of both on and off axis, i like this behavior better then sb acoustics very extended freq response on axis and normal drop off axis.
But i am not sure if a ported box works best for the monacor, driver parameters suggest a closed box in my opinion, in room response is at risk to be a bit peaky with a vented box

Do you have actual measurements of the Monacor driver? Monacors FR graphs are notoriously smoothed, blurred and generally low-res.
I would consider the older SPH 176 instead. Smaller box in case of vented and as I remember, even smoother than HQ model. It's a stamped steel basket but I wouldn't care + cheaper...

Sure:
