This is really bad news.
BTW, among the list of soapboxes, which ones are supposed to be better sounding (so i'll stock a few pairs)?

Measuring hfe in the low current levels doesn't mean something for the high level current where these will be used.
Hi thimios,
yes, you are right, I should have fired up my Tek 576 curve tracer, but I was lazy that day. 😀
Have tons of 2SA2223AY and 2SC6145AY on stock. No need for the big MT200 case.
But of course it's very sad when another good old tranny goes EOL...

KCT... you must be making some good amplifiers... I am now trying to get the coin to buy 100 of each device... every discrete amp I have is running MT200 devices on output.
And a month ago developed schematics to replicate Darlington new class A power amp chips with more aplomb, to find this discontinuation is a right wench.
Think I better tell Gryphon in Denmark to stack up on there so decent power amps are still available

Please don't do that😀
😀 I had to.... no one else will be making anything decent that’s available anyway.... though some of you on here could certainly fill the void that will be
Gryphon...available...in the same sentence? I just grabbed the other day Wega V4710(aka Sony TA5650 V-FET amp) for $200 in in the perfect condition...that's what I call available😉

Marantz did the 100W PM11 amplifier with1 pair MT200/channel, but the 110W SM11 power amplifier was made with 2 pairs of MT100/channel. So decent amps will be available later too, just with some more output pairs...

Ultimately I guess they cannot compete with TO-264 being so ubiquitous, and the general falling demand for high power Class AB amplifiers
Not necessarly more pairs: my latest 100W@8R/200W@4R high performance amplifier uses one pair IXYS high power mosfets in a TO247 case (each of them has a power dissipation of > 400W).Marantz did the 100W PM11 amplifier with1 pair MT200/channel, but the 110W SM11 power amplifier was made with 2 pairs of MT100/channel. (each of them has a power dissipation of > 400W)
That means almost nothing in practice, unfortunately.
Sajti
Simplicity in practice: no need for matching and a very good SOA if you have a TO247 with a power dissipation of > 400W

That's true. I mean that the 400W means nothing else, just that the junction to case thermal resistance is about 0,3K/W. You will not be able to dissipate even the half of the maximum, in practice.
Sajti
peak dissipation for the half wave ...
Maybe, but I would not plan with it.

Are theese suitable for SA2014?
