Salas SSLV1.3 UltraBiB shunt regulator

Congrats! The 20k multiturn trimmer is able to span a wide 5-40V output region and it can be sitting way above a specific application's threshold initially... Its counterintuitive to unwound and unwound before entering the adjustment area. When not realizing that, makes you initially think the reg must be broken. 😕

Is that the Amazon economical sink by the way?

Depends on how high CCS setting you will eventually have with the real load. Is it getting warm to the touch after idling for say half an hour as is? If yes, leave it. If stone cold, possibly get a smaller sibling and save the bigger one for a heavier application in the future.

So wow, I've finally moved on a bit, I got some parts from modushop and I think I have the final layout. Hopefully tomorrow I'll outline everything and over the weekend I'll be drilling holes and cutting threads.

I am still faced with the choice of how to connect it with DCG3.
  1. 8-core fixed cable UBib & DCG3
  2. UBib 8-core fixed cable DCG3 8pin connector
  3. UBib 8pin connector DCG3 8pin connector
Of the connectors I have these 2 candidates, which would you recommend?

Aviation connector 8 pin (500V/ 25A)

Terminal block 8pin (300V/8A)

Thanks

Hello again,
I have 1 half of the source ready, it ran on the first go without any problems. I connected the dummy load (130mA) and the heatsink is still cold after 10 minutes of operation, but the dummy load is hot (141ohm/5W). I was expecting the heatsink to be warmer 😍

My 5V supply negative rail quit unexpectedly. Output voltage dropped to 1.2V and LED's dark. Input AC normal at 9VAC. R1 during this failure event has not exhibited overheating or browning.

Uninstalled PCB from heatsinks and put DMM in diode mode. Q1-4 measure within range. M1 did not, removed it and observed the center Drain pin had a weak solder joint.

Replaced M1, reinstalled and re-powered, same behavior, replacement M1 measures high Drain to Source.

Any hints on next diagnostic / repair steps? Thanks in advance Salas!
