Rutcho's Fullrange Measurements Database

Rutco,

Re. the 1320 - it's this driver but with a round frame. I believe it was the first bamboo driver available from PE. I think I paid $33 each.

Tang Band W4-1320SJ 4" Bamboo Cone Driver

I want to enjoy it without a tweeter (and can) but a tweeter really adds needed hi frequency information. I listen slightly off axis but even on axis, it's treble is soft. Overall, it's one of my favorite drivers. At $33 I feel like I got a very good deal.

Re. the 168z - I encourage you to build the BVR. FYI, I built a 24L ported box, a 42L ported box, a BK161 back horn, a BIB and even an open baffle. They all work but my favorite is the large 42L box. I think it's damn near perfect tuned to 59Hz. It doesn't model perfectly but the sound totally gells and it's one of my favorite speakers regardless of cost. I have this setup in my bedroom.

Re. the AN driver - thanks for measuring and satisfying my curiosity about this one.

I suspect variances between different batches of TB W4-1320
I have tested three different lots of this driver.
First one (10 pcs) I bought through e-bay directly from Taiwan.
The second one (12 pcs) I bought from Maclementhorn - Italy.
Third one - a pair with ferrite magnet that a friend of mine gave me for test.
The last one has completely different high-frequency curve from what I published in my site, regardless of identical looking cone. That's why I asked you for a particular model.
Since I don't keep the results, I will take this pair for measurements again.

Great job again! How Sonidos playing fast and dynamic music compared to Fostex or AN ?

If we play it loud, the AN is my favorite for dynamic music from your list.
Sonido will be a choice if we are looking for a better balance.

hey rutcho - OT - do you have a list of recommended blues albums of high audio and artistic quality for enjoyment and speaker testing?

I started spontaneously to listen to the blues music five years ago and I am still exploring this vast space.
The Willie Dixon's "Willie's Blues" is one of my favorites. I prefer the 24/7 record from vinyl disk even it has some rumble.
Muddy Waters "Folk Singer" is another album I love to test loudspeakers with.
For rich and dynamic sound I recommend "Cadillac In The Swamp" by Smokehouse.
Don't miss Hugh Laurie's (yes, Dr. House's) album "Let them talk".

Who needs drama when you know you're presenting facts, right?
Yes, this is the way I want to help to anybody, who tries to design his own loudspeaker system. Cold-blooded facts are what always misses me when I start my own project.

One week ago a friend of mine brought a nice pair of
Philips AD-1256/M8
12" fullrange drivers.
Unfortunately I found no manufacturer's datasheet for this loudspeaker. I will be very glad if someone can send me some kind of brochure or other data...

The 5200M was reintroduced as the 1255/M7 at the same time the 1256/M8 was launched. So I'm not sure the 1256 was the "successor" to the 5200M so much as it was the overhung alternative, sort of like how Philips offered the 8" 9750M (overhung) and 9710M (underhung).

I really enjoy the Eminence 12lta wide range driver. I've modified it to good effect (removed dustcap and added phase plugs). I also use a helper tweeter. I'm happy you included a 12 inch driver. Clearly, it can play high enough in frequency to maintain a cohesive 'full range' sound. While I'm sure the 12lta is not the ultimate 12" wide ranger, it's my reference point and makes me wonder how much better larger diameter drivers can be.

You are after a datasheet and not just the usual listing of the drivers brochure, with a few pre T/S parameters and a very coarse curve, that you can find many places on the webs?
If the latter is the case then I might be of help, though not with the former.
