I would suggest measuring in the V-out of the HCU04 at the two points preceding each resistor (this implies temporarily restoring the original clock crystal & caps.).

Then, I would power up your clock (while it's out of circuit with your CDP) and take a reading for the clock-out.

I would use these findings and send a support request to your clock manuf. for assistance.

There are some differences in the levels of v-out between clocks. It may be that you're giving too much or too little juice.

Hi,

The weird part is the static (which rides on otherwise pristine music, i.e. I get the music + the noise) appears only when I switch on the player for the 1st time for the day. Disappears if I power off the player and power on again. 🙄

Everything else appears fine, the CDP can read the CD, play the CD, etc. Even when the static noise is appearing on the outputs. Hope I did not accidentally screw up something else.

modification for rotel rcd02

I ownes a rotel rcd02 and i wasnt very please with the sound. I can give you some advices how to do it much better. If you can email me the manual that you have i can go on further improvement. The first thing you have to do is change the electrolytic capacitor in the signal path after the DAC 4,7ìf with a MKP(no problem there is a lot of space there) then change the output capacitors (i think they are 100ìf electrolytic) with a MKP 33 ìF(there is not enough space for a 47ìF witch is a better choise). That will give you a much better sound. Then you can change the 2604 with 2134 for smoother, more analogue sound and for the last and much more difficult put a new power supply only for the analogue stage using LM317 and LM337. The voltage of the power supply is different if you use 2604 or 2134. My email is petermenidiatis@yahoo.gr

I have modded a few of these, the problem is they are very bright sounding.

There are two reasons for this.
1) OPA2604 - this is a very bright sounding opamps
2) Panasonic FC caps everywhere - although I like these caps in psu I do think they add an over clinical sound to output stages.

These two combined give the sound character.

I would change the opamps for LM4562NA as these are very neutral and fit Black Gate standard 16V 220uF caps on the power rails for the opamps to replace the FC.
If you don't want Blake Gates use something like Cerefine or Silmics. But I think the LM4562 and BG partnership is very good one.

See what you think then move onto really upgrading the cd player ;-)

MY RCD-02 has stopped reading playing discs, I get no TOC read or even NO disc. When I put a cd in and close the drawer the display shows 00 and then spins up the CD but gets no further. ANyone else have this problem. I am thinking its probably a problem with the laser but would like to hear from anyone elses experiences.

I got the same problem, any solutions, may I also ask for the service manual , please?

Thanx to all.

I am looking for the manual too ...will really appreciate if someone can share it.

My RCD02 (and RA02) is 9 years old....still chugging along great except problems with the tray mechanism. I want to try and mod it a bit just for the heck of it.

Regards.
