Resurrecting a Crown DC300A

Hi Shawn,
Stick with the 2N3440 and 2N5415's. The NTE's are only 80 VDC.

The Book of Lies ........

Hey Glenn,
For me it's about temperature. I do not trust the Zetex products in that application. The top hats on the TO-39's will run cooler.

Hi imix500,
Those darn things are toooooo heavy to ship. That's a local pick up thing. But do let us know if you score the amps. Good luck!

Hi Shawn,
Look up a TO-220 driver. Pin assignments may change between those packages. No problem as you can rotate the package to line up the leads. Head to the On Semi site.

-Chris

I did already but I came up with MJ182. I was hoping not to re-route the pcb trails? I'll look some more...

Shawn.

So they don't fab? Where do they get their wafers/die?

Shawn.

From Zetex:
Zetex is a leading provider of high performance, analog semiconductor products for signal processing and power management. The company designs and manufactures a broad range of standard and application focused linear integrated circuits and discrete semiconductor products using a wide variety of wafer processing technologies.

Headquartered near Manchester in the UK, Zetex employs more than 750 people worldwide. The company has two wafer fabrication plants in the UK and carries out package development, assembly and test at its facilities in Germany and China and through subcontractors in Asia.

Zetex operates sales offices in Munich, Hong Kong and New York and is supported by a global network of distributors and manufacturer's representatives. The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Telemetrix PLC until April 2004, when the resolution was passed to change the company name to Zetex Semiconductors plc. Shares are publicly traded on the London Stock Exchange under the trading symbol ZTX.

Chris...understood.

I was at an R & D conference... one of the speakers stuttered horribly. He was presenting HIS research and was very bright indeed.

You wanted to pity the guy until you realized he had the self confidence and nerve to give a long presentation.

On an interesting note... have you seen the gizmo where they mic the sound from a stutterer's voice, delay it slightly, and feed it in one ear. Instant cure for profound stuttering.

I believe the amp they used was stroked-down Crown 300...

They are working on making the thing wearable.

Hmmn, new kid on the block. I must look closer. They have distribution and catalog houses here in North America. Good times Echo. Do you work for them? Just asking.

Cheers,

Shawn.
Sold by Digikey.

I use them a lot. Not cheap as far as small-signal devices go (average about $1 US each or so), but good bandwidth, excellent power handling for their size, and very good gain characteristics. I use these two transistors (ZTX795A, PNP, and ZTX694B, NPN) in matched pairs for differential inputs. Average gain (at about 2mA Ic) is typically around 450 for the PNP's, and 650 for the NPN's. Not uncommon to sample NPN's with gains better than 1200.

But Chris is right...either find another TO-39 device, or substitute a TO-126 package, like the 2SA914 and 2SC1953.

Hi,
go look at the To126 devices.
start with 2sa1360/c3423
also
1249/3117
1210/2912
1209/2911
1370/3467
1371/3468
1380/3502
1406/3600
1407/3601
1476/3782
1477/3787
1478/3788
1538/3953
1539/3954
1540/3955
1697/4474
1777/4623
1875/4976
plenty choice there to suit price and availability.

wwee... ha..ha...have some focalin, concerta, adderalllllll, all in timed release form if you'd like... sort of like treating the low, medium, and high frequency problems selectively.. :-;

Shawn...

If u need more copper, I could "bulk up" a board prior to etching to whatever thickness u'd want.

poobah,
That's a lot of weight to hand around your neck.😀

He's a BIG Poobah and likes big bling around the neck.🙂

Shawn,
Do you need some 2N3440's and 5415's or MJE340's and 350's? I so I have some. Let me know.

Thanks, but I should have no difficulty getting the transsitors. I'm not done yet with the substitutions so hold that thought.

I have decided to refurbish the orriginal output boards but what do you mean exactly by bulking up copper? Sounds interesting?

Shawn.

New Driver board for Mr. T

T,

This looks better, yes? New Driver Board ready for the drill press.
