A few hours ago I just finished to replace 15 resistors per channel in the line path of a pair of Nestorovic NA-1 with the Charcroft.
I was just wondering if I should expect more changes in the sound for the next days.
Thanks for your postings regarding the Charcroft resistors. It helped be a bit to take the the decision to try them.

Erlend,
Just saying the PRP's is the worst sounding resistor does not help us move this forward. Please give us some details, especially the equipment you tried them in. I for instance have used them in a Hagtech Clarinet and in my ARC clone preamps. I like the way they sound. They do tend to be somewhat thin, especially before they break in. I find they take at least 100 hours to open up. They are not for people who want an old fashioned big tube sound. They do work great with the 6H30 stuff I work on.
John
You would not be wiser knowing my equipment. I can tell I am just nr. 2 in the world that have loudspeakers with the famous DCA Cast Copper caps for my midrange. I have some of the best speakers in the world and made by the guys who make the DCA caps. I use 5 mm2 silver/gold speaker cable. My RCA cables are silver with a lot of gold melted into them. My power amps is also with 5 mm2 silver/Gold cable evrywere from the Diodes to the terminals. Any resistor in the signal path is Charcroft exclusive the Emitter resistors wich is Mills.
I can understand they are not so bad if you use those 6H30 tubes. I have tried them as well.

The α-1 and NA-1 power amps by Mile Nestorovic are soooo cool.
One big difference between the Bulk foil and Charcroft is the plastic. Equipment with plastic needs break in time. Without you almost do not need it.

One pair I put in the Mundorf Silver/Gold/oil Caps, in another one the StealthCap (Moncrief) plus the Charcoft resistors. The third pair is "original" that means with Mile's latest updates (coupling capacitors change).
My changes are in line with Mile's thoughts. I changed those capacitors / resistors in the signal path which he thought would have an impact on the sound. I just tried to use more actual and more "acclaimed" ones.
I'm using since the beginning of this year the amps in balanced mode.
I have everything else in balanced (Aesthetix IO + Callisto and the Metronome-Technologie C2 DAC) so I suppose that's why it sounds better (at least I believe so but I didn't do specific A/B or blind tests).Do you think Balanced mode sound better ?
Sorry my English are to bad to explain correct the difference between the two kinds of Vishay. Charcroft have a little problem I have heard before from resistors on a thin ceramic plate. Some kind of hardness or ecco effekt. At this time I am very positive about the Amtrans resistors to. They do not suffer of ceramic problems.
They might be different, perhaps a custom modification. I believe in differences, but not to such extremes. It is always refreshing to see such strong opinions.
I have Charcrofts that have the resistive element on something like becalite. I can hear no problems in them. I did not try runnning inn though. They are in a linestage of mine that sounds just fine.
Becalite do sound much better than ceramic. Were did you get them ? The Z foils I use in my " The End XP " solid state without feedback. I use them in my balanced Moxamp to.

When the hole equipment is plasticfree it is possible to hear what you have;nt dreamed of.
For what it's worth, Vishay now offers a new version of their proprietary Z-foil, namely Z-1 foil. It apparently involves an improved formulation of the alloy (nickle-chrome, like most metal film and wirewound resistors) plus 'post-manufacturing operations' that include careful thermal stressing and aging--in other words, break-in!
This serves to remove the very tiny amount of drift that occurs early in the life of the installed part. So, a new 'ultimate resistor' for us to aspire to?
Note that Vishay has a new URL devoted to their bulk foil resistor products:

Yes I have tried Amtrans , takman carbon and takman metalfilm. The sound follows the Amtrans is far the best.
Amtrans sounds very good it is sweet sounding but precis . In fact I prefer it compared with Vishay wich can be kind of stressed . I do not like Riken its to unprecis in the upper bass.

Amtrans? never heard of. are metal or carbon?

Erland,
Slight off topic here, but I too have the Millenium XP amps which are built with the very best parts external to the boards themselves. I have not got around to working on the board so if you have some suggestions regarding the most efective partts upgrades I would be grateful. I am thinking first of upgrading the input resistors with the Z-foils.
Regards,
Rob.
