I have a NAD T775 AV receiver that has long been plagued by issues. Despite a dead display-screen and random sound drop-outs while watching video, I really enjoyed this AVR. It just sounded really good to my ears. Unfortunately, the random sound drop-out is now a permanent drop-out so I'm debating on what to do.
I could just send the unit to an authorized repair shop and see what the diagnosis is. Even if I decide to have it fixed (which I doubt will be cheap), I won't use it in my main system because it doesn't support 4k HDR.
But rather than just letting a big black box collect dust, maybe I can gut the T775 for parts and create a DIY 7-channel amp with the components. Albeit a wild guess, I think the amp section of the T775 is probably fine and the problems most likely lie in the related electronics (video, dsp, etc). Just a hunch.
I'm not committed to doing this yet, just trying to flesh out the idea. Would appreciate any comments/advice/feedback.

Can be a good idea.
That NAD has analog preamp inputs for 7.1. Does the amp work OK if you just use those inputs only?

Its most likely possible. Many recievers I've seen have discrete amp sections (I guess so they can reuse the channel design when they need a bunch more channels for the next 12.4 standard or whatever) See if you can find a service manual, it will provide some clues, but so will lifting the skirts to see what lurks underneath [emoji6]

I was told before that the preamp inputs won’t work in isolation of the DSP board. But will give it a try and report back.

I have a copy of the service manual. Will post in the morning.
The pdf file for the service manual is too large to post whole. Here it is in 8 page sections.
Thanks again for any insight.

The rest of the service manual.

Using the line level inputs on back did not work. However, using the front inputs (multi-purpose inputs?) produced sound. I cannot tell what the settings were since the unit's display screen doesn't work and I don't have a video device hooked up to view the OSD monitor.
I meant more "take a look at the service manuals" rather than share them ... but thanks anyway [emoji38] I suspect you can tap into the power amplifiers pretty easy. Then just gut the other boards and add your own preamp
I look but do not see... 😀
Was hoping someone who knows more about this than I could share some insights. Thanks!
