Reference DAC Module - Discrete R-2R Sign Magnitude 24 bit 384 KHz

"linear , mixed, minimum, soft" are just names for the 4 sets of filters that are loaded in the DAM, no matter which set of filters you have loaded.

"linear" will correspond to the first filter in the filters file that you uploaded, "mixed" to the second one and so on.

Thanx, DimDim!

Got everything managed yesterday. Enjoying newNOS now, sounds 'analogue' but with a slight tendency to 'muddyness' in my equipment and ears;-)

I've set up my DAM with an ironhard DC- powersupply, selfbuilt, am playing digitally via CD- transport but mostly from an 'ARCHPHILE'- powered raspberry pi B+ via I2S connection. ARCHPHILE to my ears is the best distro you can get for RPI- music- ambitions. Also did Vref- Mod allready- only 16- caps-mod..... nervedistroying😀
This DAC really has a lot of potential and gives so much room for experiments🙂

...out of my experience I can say, that, if you download the party pak for instance, the first filter of all 4 is set initially. If you want to change to one of the others you have to type "set filters = mixed" in uManager- that would give you Filter 2. Type "set filters = minimum" will select Filter 3 and so on. There are the only possibilities to choose linear, mixed, minimum or soft. linear for the first Filter, soft for the last of a package with 4 Filters. To get back to Filter 1 type "set filters = linear".

Archphile is an excellent distribution for the RPi IMHO, and I'm not just saying that because tux is a friend.

Keep a lookout for a new patch that enables actual 24bit I2S output in the following days.

The DAM is indeed an excellent platform for experimentation. 😀

just to confirm,
if I load party pak firmware on top of 0.99, then select F7 (soft), it will become NewNOS, right?

Dear SOEKRIS,

I am no longer going to use a computer for my "player" and would like to bypass the isolators in the I2S circuit.

Are the grounds going through the isolators along with the signal? If that is case can I assume that only BLCK, DAT and LRCK are being isolated? This would mean these are two channels versions for the three chips?

Have I got this right?

THANKS and take care,

bypassed the lrclk, bclk and data isolators earlier today
very impressed with results
but my pc system is low noise so wont suit many

any sign of that oem version been released yet

1) There is absolutely no reason the bypass the isolators, all the digital signals get reclocked anyway in the FPGA.

2) The isolators are Silicon Labs SI8620BB-B-ISR, take a look at the datasheet to understand how they work....
