R-H ssd-5600

good evening,
all my drivers are new, except one that has no packaging. it served as an exhibition model for pro audio salons. it bears the production number 014482 and is at 3.4 ohm .the other two are still unwrapped, I wait the last moment before opening them, have never know ...

Salut !

Do you have the possibility to measure the SSD 5600 and the CBH horn ?

Jean-Louis

this measure has been carried out, it can be found in the catalogs renkus 85 & 89.

I know but I do not trust that much vendors’ measurements 😀

Re buying the horns, in such large horns I am not that sure that epoxy would be the best material for domestic use although it is cheap, strong, waterproof and light which is good for PA use. But if you or someone could measure them I might try to build a prototype 🙄 or before listen by a current owner.

Depends also on availability and price on the french market where they might not show up that often, these RH driver and horn series seems to have been quite confidential. There is virtually nothing on the web as well as Diyaudio , which is rare !

Hello Jean-Louis,

It was EBA, I had seen the announcement and I almost sent him a message, I was interested in a pair of membranes, but I do not think he would have sold them separately, in any case this is a good buy.
I saw his horn project, it's pretty, but very complicated to do, and wallet side is not a bargain, my advice is worth it if you do not have a horn , the best is to make a copy of the CBH, 8 board, and the games are done, cheap, guaranteed result, it allows you to get an idea and think of another profile in the future, given the number of possibility.
In addition it is necessary to take into account the angle of exit of the driver (13.8 ° total) which was thought with its horn, for the 300 to 2000 Hz.
Fiberglass, it's muted. I think the measurements are valid and before I do, I want to complete my back cover.

It was because of him, or thanks to him, when he talked about this driver, that I put myself in the head to find a pair, I knew the Community, Emilar EC600 but not the RH.

Before that, I wanted to make a big horn Lecleach Iwata for my driver 2 inches, but I was not convinced, it was almost close, drawn with solidwork (there are some defects on the throat and the edges), it is relatively big (I wanted it as wide as my box, because I use 4 woofer in parallel), 1.2m wide, 47cm height and about 1.05m deep, I put it in pdf, you can turn it in all directions.

Regards,
Stefano

Hello,
I had not seen this article.
I found this measure, it's not me (driver alone, mike about 10 cm from the exit).
I will take the internal measurements and angles of the 60x40 horn, I will put them here, in case you would like to do it in wood.
Regards,
Stefano

Hi Stefano

Great, thank you so much for the offer. Btw what woofer are you using below ?

Good evening,
My woofers are fostex L475 (8), with a box similar to a jbl 5674 , but with 4 triangular vents in the corners for an area greater than 2 woofer, the volume of the box is also higher because of the low qts.
I have a lot of material fostex because I started with this brand, I deviated for the driver with R-H, I do not regret it, but in general I keep all my equipment.
On the CBH horn, I installed my fostex driver modified with a radian membrane, I simply wanted compared with the ssd, the result is obvious, this driver 2 inches, could be called x, y, z, that would not make any difference, I only remember one thing, the unmatched presence of ssd.
It is for this reason that I was dubitative to make the horn that I put in pdf.
For horn, with hornresp, I added extensions to the mouth of the CBH, it extends and it raises a little low frequency cut, but it remains a hole of about 2 db, making rounded edges, he should improve, but I have not managed to do it, I do not know if it is possible, I should ask the question.
Regards,
Stefano

Hi Stefano

Impressing setup for bass ! I am uncertain for which way to follow, I now have VOT A7 which I find a bit too high for medium above + Magnat Omega 380 Subwoofer. Maybe JBL 4550 or large folded horn.

I am not certain to understand "It is for this reason that I was dubitative to make the horn that I put in pdf" ?

Could you share the hornresp model if you still have available ? Manufacturer TS parameters of your own measure ?

Thanks
Jean-Louis

Hello,
I was talking about the horn iwata lecleach 2" inches that I put in answer # 25.

I made a drawing with the angles of the horn, if you want to make it, so it takes 10 pieces of wood + 4 flat edges for the mouth and not 8, because there is an angle on the verticals walls near the hole (see the pictures), on the other hand the top and the bottom "S2-S3 in hornresp" it is a single piece.
For rounded edges, I think you have to extract the txt file from hornresp, then, empirically, either with a drawing software or even by hand, draw the edge, take the measurements, manually add the lines to the file , reimport it to see if it brings anything.
I put a file with calculated values of the driver, they should be fair, even if the parameters seems bizzare.

Regards,
Stefano

Hi Stefano
Yes Eric was very kind to bring them from overseas but they are still enjoying ski vacations (;-)
Will be back soon, I am impatient to try them but very busy on the professional side so it may take a couple of weeks. I’ll update you ASAP.

Happy new year too to all SSD 5600 lovers (;-)

I think I'm user number 4? 🙂

I am perhaps optimistic in trying to use these drivers quite low - they are in a large horn about 70Hz (it's 3m long), and I'm hoping to use them above Lab Subs crossing over around 100Hz.

The horn has a sharp 90 degree bend, so I'm going to limit the midrange - I can cross over to JBL 2441s at 500Hz or slightly less.

I have rebuilt the back box (on one, the other tomorrow!), which I hope will extend the low frequencies.

Has anyone else tried these that low? It's a domestic system, so won't be that loud, and I use a digital crossover, so can use quite steep slopes as necessary.

Hi amdismal, yes probably #4, very select club
I saw your post on another forum The Man Cave - HiFi - Audio Abattoir, impressive setup
Did you succeed going that deep with the RH SSD 5600 ? Any measurements ?
