Unfortunately I've given up on the plan. I constructed a new mounting for them, to enable a much larger back box, but never got it working properly: there was always some issue or another. The main problem was the rubber mounting on the diaphragm fouling on the mount, causing a rattling sound.
I've now got some perfectly ordinary Oberton 12" drivers that just work and sound great in a straight horn.
It's rather saddening tbh, I'd love to have compression mid bass, but I'm happier to have something that actually works!
