Marking TO-3 holes

One method of marking holes for drilling is to use the insulation micas as templates.

Lay out all the micas on the heatsink and use a permanent marker to mark out all the hole centers.

Could the MJ15024/25 be a direct electrical replacement for the 2SC5200/1943, apart from its mechanical difference?

Dude..check out the datasheets...are the graphs perfectly matched in any way?? if not they are NOT a DIRECT replacement...I mean they behave differently...so there's no direct replacement...but nothing is stopping you from trying though...watch out the SOA there though...

Thanks for your pointer ..... QuaqYi. The problem is I can't find datasheets of the two transistors that provide me with the same transfer characteristic (Ic-Vce) graphs to make the comparison. Would deeply appreciate if you could post them to me. Many Thanks!!!

The 2SC5200 is from Toshiba right?? So you should be able to reach it's datasheet from this webby

the MJ15022 is manufactured by On-Semi which would mean there are samples available...hehehe...anyways..the dadasheet here.

Im currently busy with a "vero-board" layout for the M250
Can i use TIP 3055 Output transistors ? my supply is +/- 50V and using the amp to power an 8 - ohm, 8 - inch woofer, with a LPF with an Fc of 3.1Khz so i dont need super fast tranistors, right ? can this be done ??

That's a very big NO, unless you like the smell of burned transistors...
You shouldn't even consider comparing the TIP3055 with a MJ15024.
With a supply of +/-50v you would exceed the max rating for 3055 by lightyears !

, eem is there a cheaper transistor then when i mean cheap i dont mean FAKE transistors heheh just a lower and cheaper version may a plastic case?? if no then i`ll use the MJ`s then eem heheh


the reason why i want cheap ones is cause like i said the load will be light 8 - ohm , with a bandwidth of 20 - 3.1Khz ,and the amp wont work very hard but when i do decide i will put better output transistors in place,also my sub subwoofer is my next which will consisits of x2 M250amps running in brige mode
with the TO-3 metal cases no finance cuts on that sub woofer project.

3.1khz is not really low bandwidth, this is around the most critical frequencies. For plastic and not too expensive maybe MJL21194/3 ?
Otherwise keep the MJ15024/25.
A cheaper but less quality device is the MJ15003/4.

Check the price on the MJ15015/16, a 15A part good for ±57V and has 180W SOA at 60V.

Used by Crown and Carver in various models, I paid USD$1.23/$1.30 for mine.

Ah, the "high" voltage version of 2n3055... But can you use a single pair of them at these voltages ?
