That driver looks like it has cone damage as well. A full recone might be the best way to go.
too much job and too expensive, the cone still works fine.
What is the condition of the rear suspension (the corrugated spider)?
Perhaps the voice coil has separated from the spider causing it and the cone to sink towards the back plate of the magnet assembly.

The problem with the cone excursion is understood.
It is more likely to be a rear suspension fault than a front suspension fault.
Inspect the rear suspension. Is the corrugated spider still attached to the voice coil former as shown in the attachment?
