quality of new threads going downhill

To maintain level in the technical sections, we simply need to rigorously denounce all themes as BS that advocate snake oil theories, e.g. random parts rolling, wonder cables etc.

Big big mistake that would be. While I don't believe in any of that, you would essentially completely change the forum into something else entirely. This is a case of "be careful what you wish for, as you just may get it".

Yep, eccentrics are much more interesting

The "perception narrowing" I'm talking about is not a conscious thing that can be controlled, it seems to happen subconsciously whereby we automatically subconsciously filter sounds such that certain differences are no longer audible us - the example of the Hindi language sounds illustrates this.

What you seem to be talking about is the conscious use of attention & focus by which we narrow the field of perception to particular aspects

I was thinking more along the lines of: Yes, autistic people are probably stuck on one or more fields of interest with "perception narrowing" activated.
But I am certain that it can be controlled by some of us, I use deep focus a lot, hard to avoid using it.
Except when driving, the I widen my focus field and rely mostly on peripheral senses because they are quicker to react, tend to read other peoples driving patterns.

You are misinterpreting the meaning of "perception narrowing" - you will need to look up the phrase as I can't go into it - sorry but I've been told not to hijack this thread but start my own. If your interested we could discuss in another thread of you start one?

Hi, as a practicing artist, I am very interested in taking part in a discussion about the phenomenon of perception. So long as we can self moderate, and without a bun-fight breaking out between the cardigans, I'm in.

I read about that extensively some years ago, brain pattern plasticity is very interesting.
It was what I was thinking about, but more specificly I was thinking about focusing on a number of different activities/topics for the sole purpose of increasing neural connections to the focus and learn process itself. Deep focus is a brain function. Spent your time limit on focusing on a single topic? Focus on it from a different perspective and you can change to a third perspective when the second is exhausted.

To be fair I think there is an element of lost in translation there. That is the google translation from his original post. He edited out the original after I edited his post and added the translation.

I probably should have mentioned to him that the translation was not too good, he wouldn't likely know it doesn't make a great deal of sense.

Tony.

The old threads seem to be a bit warmer and have a certain magic to them. The new threads have lower distortion and better efficiency but lack the warmth and magic.

brilliant 🙂

methods of protecting oneself when/if we do have another economic collapse and doing so while maintaining a good source of audio fidelity.

We should all have methods of protecting ourselves while maintaining audio fidelity 🙂

brown cardigans, tartan carpet slippers and oscilloscopes.

I love the sounds of the engine of my pickup truck, it's a gigantic beast that purrs and growls. I like noisy children. I cannot stand the sound of power tools.

I love pile drivers, jack hammers, massed leaf blowers, angelic female vocalists like Liz Fraser, the Welsh Miners Choirs, and extreme industrial like Test Dept, Masonna, Merzbow, acoustic guitar masters like John Fahey and Robbie Basho.

I also watch TV, and love hearing "The Little Drummer Boy" in the mall.
