After dissassembling and desoldering the wires from the posts, I started my refurbishing with the removal of the green tarnish from the contact with vinegar

... turned out to be a bad idea. Too much bathing the brass parts in vinegar resulted in 'dezincification'. Fortunately, I managed to source an another bulgin socket.
I used citric acid instead of vinegar this time.
