QUAD 63 (and later) Delay Line Inductors

One good reason for it is when the RF clamp circuit fires the SCR shorts the input of the speaker and the only thing between it and a complete dead short is that resistor and cap combo. As we’ve said it’s effectively a short at higher frequencies but does provide a bit of a load to the amp down at low frequencies and DC.

It’s insanity that quad said “short the input” upon sensing problems rather than “open the input”

Thanks, Good People; nothing here I hadn't worked-out, but I very much appreciate the sense-check before potential future surgery.

(when I did take a look, a few years ago in my 989s - I did throw a 10uF polyprop across the tiny 220uf bipolar electrolytics. It certainly did no harm.

Wima MKP4/400v iirc... nice and compact for such a thing, and comes already-potted in a rigid case - in exactly the way most audiophool caps do.not. )

Here's a couple pictures of the inductor including one through my stereo-microscope eyepiece.
Recently stumbled on some images in an old Speaker Builder article showing the inductors being wound and prepared for potting and thought there might be some interest in seeing them.
Enjoy!
