Funny to read that paper. The guy has the excact same impression about a shunt reg as I had, when I first heard one. Even the noise from a simple zener shunt, is the same😱

Most of the capacitors in the shunty and pumpkin have a range of values that can be used.
In this case - is bigger always better
Like other notable things
I am currently using the values in the middle for most of the caps - should I go bigger??

that I've just build a few days ago. Mine's a Barnes & Noble Special Edition (see pic).
I'll probably use that to test out the yellow and black beauty to see which I prefer as the output cap before soldering it into the pumpkin.
