Hey,
I just got a proxima ovation 810 from ebay and saw that it came with no power cable or video cable. Well the power cable is a 5 pin round connection that is the same as a old keyboard connection. That cable is exclusive to proxima. The video cable is a 25 pin to 15 pin (VGA) cable. Also exclusive to proxima. Because proxima is the only maker of these cables they are able to charge 150 dollars each USD. Well i dont want to spend 300 u.s. on cables when the panel itself was only 50 u.s. So i figured someone must be or have been in the same boat as me. Someone must have figured out a way to construct these cables themselves. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe someone knows where i can locate one of these for cheap?
More bad news.... I found out just now that the ovation 810 needs a fixed frequency video card to run. Any ideas on this.
Thanks,
Brian Jacobsen

Hi Brain
I am working with a Proxima Projector requiring the same Video cable is used. I found a post for the hook up of it. I also missed an auction on ebay for one that was way cheaper then the one you spoke of.

Good Luck, I hope this helps you out 😎
PS Mike had also posted the hook up for I belive your power cable on the same link.

The Cable Guy
I am the guy that won that Ebay auction for the cable and I have received it and it works fine. It apprears to not be a factory original but as I said it does work fine. I had previously tried and adptor to convert a vga to an rb9 and then convert rb9 to rb25 which is the same pinout as the Proxima but that did not work. You can contact the sellor from that auction and see if he has anymore. Right now I am search for the cable for a Proxima +920.

Good to know the cable works fine. I saw he sold some in the past I haven't seen any relisted from that seller. I had my unit working of a home made adapter cable using the pin hookup on the link. I haven't finished it yet though. I put an oddball end on that I had no covers for. I will have to resolder another 25 pin end on that I have the outer jackets for. Good enogh for now though.

Hey folks,
Just had to re-register since my email changed and admin hasn't responded to my email address change.
Anyways, I am the cable guy you have been talking about. I still do the cables and yes, they are not factory built since they discontinued buidling and apparently have sold all they had. I build them personally and guarantee them to work and as you now know, they do work.
Good to see some of you folks showing off my handy work, awesome and thank you!

So you lost your email address? I see you still have the same earthlink used for your paypal when you did ebay. I would have really thought eBay would have been able to have a way for you just to change the address on your account? It is a shame to loose such a good feedback rating! Anyway, good to here that you are back! How does someone go about getting one of these cables? Do you have a website or a new eBay member name? They do look like nice cables at a reasonable cost and have only herd good things about our product

I didn't lose my ebay name, it's still skywayflies, but I forgot my password here on DIY and since my emailed has changed, I had to re register. I did email the admin twice, but didn't get any responce, so re registering as skywayflies 2 was about my only option. Oh, before you say it, I wrote down my password this time, LOL.

Did you have any luck powering up and connecting that Ovation +920 you bought recently? I have one on the way and it looks like from several days searching the forums and the internet, this may be a difficult panel to energize and link to a PC via VGA.

Thanks this adapter will work out for me. Just a note if you make more of this particular adapter for the 8400. The edge of the hood cover hits on the projectors cover prevents it from fully being inserted without modification. The projector has a somewhat sunken in socket. (tight on the sided)
Nice soldering and looks good, will make for a clean install with my extension cable I already have.
I recommend the LCD Cable Man
PS Don't forget to put that password you wrote down somewhere that you wont forget. LOL

Any chance your able to take a picture and email that to me so I make darn sure to get that corrected? I use pretty much the same hoods so I will want to make that right from the start.
Thanks a mill for the compliment! I always like to hear about another projector getting hooked up and working. AWESOME!
Oh, that password is everywhere but posted on the net, LOL. Teaches me to rely soley on my noggin.

Proxima Ovation 920
1024X768 native, 16.7M, 100:1, 30ms, active matrix.
Well, thanks to sheer stubbornness, relentless web pursuit, The Cable Man's expertise, and a bit of luck, it looks like the proxima 900 series LCD panel's inclination to frustrate buyers who get a good deal on a panel bare of essential connectors may be less proprietary than it seems. I have an alleged working proxima ovation 920 without a power supply or LCD/VGA cable on the way. I don't know for sure yet, since the panel was shipped only today, but I feel pretty confident that we have a cheap solution to the panel's way funky SUN (13C3 or 13W3) VGA PC interface and DIN 5 I.E.C. (Proxima Model # 400-00018) power supply. Of course, the power supply issue for many proxima models has been solved for some time thanks to DIY-er's hard work and cooperation, and can be found for $43 via Google search: here
Or self-made with a DIN 5 adaptor plug and an AT/ATX power supply. I really hope the panel isn't DOA. I have to stay positive. I'll let you guys know after it arrives.
For any of you out there with a 920 or a 944 that has no VGA cable supplied, and are frustrated by their odd 10-pin, 3 coaxial, female 'from computer' port, the solution may be an old SUN to VGA cable. I won one on EBay yesterday for $2.99+, and I think it will work. Ebay search for Sun Cables, and look for a 13W3M-HD15M cable. Also, commercial sites offer Sun VGA Male to 15 PIN VGA Female (13W3M-HD15F) adaptors for around $20.
here for example
Once I know for sure I'll let you guys know. Soon I hope to be experiencing for the first time what a Proxima Ovation 920 plus a 3M 9850 can do. 🙂

Proxima Panel power supply work around
There is a work around for the many Proxima Panels that have missing power supplies.
The 5 pin din connectors can be found at your local Radical Shack for about $3. An old or unused computer power supply can be used as the power source. AT or ATX will work, so that ups the possibilities for a good power source.
I can email a picture or two that should help most folks out to get the power supplies fully operation with there panels. If you need this info, just email, it's free for the asking. Be sure to ask how to get the power supply to fully turn on. Since this is normally controlled by pushing the power button on a computer, but you won't have that option once the supply has been pulled out of the computer. There are two methods depending on if the supply is an AT or ATX.

More Info?
Hey Skywayflies thanks for the picture of the pinouts on the 810 power supply.I was just wondering whether you had any more info pictures etc.I,m really really new to this but not to making up cables soldering etc.Do you have aprocedure for making up the power supply using an old PC power supply or pictures of one you may have made up yourself? Also does the 810 have the weird 15 pin output? Havent received it yet but Ebay add said SVideo?
Any more help would be appreciated.

Proxima power supply
I do have pictures, but not on how I wired it up on the inside of the AT power supply. I have pics of how the wires should be for the 5 pin din plug. They are pretty good pics and very helpful.
I am not sure what you mean by a 15 pin connector and most certainly isn't svid with that many pins. Could you give a litte more info on that?

OH, you might be thinking of the 9 pin connector that is used for a Cylcops pointer and Svideo should be a 4 pin connector.
Hey any photos would be appreciated.May be the 15 pin connector is only on the 920 (see above on this thread)Well this power supply doesnt sound like to much of a problem.Old PC,s are readilly available. We dont have a radio shack here but plenty of electronic outlets. Is there a paticular cable I will use?

Here are some pics that should help a bunch for folks wanting to build there own power supply:
Please ignore the wire color as your power supply may not be the same, so always check, check, check.

Looks like you will have to copy and paste the links into the address bar. Bummer, I am not sure how to make direct links since the normal HTML isn't working here.
