To be fair, the top cardas of yore cords I bought, are well thought out specialty items. Their shielding is far superior to any lesser cord. The termination is industrial. They are every bit worth 25 each. And building a quality system benefits from the top parts in every category. I am going to put an IEC socket in a transformer. Use the good cord to feed the distribution. Later, one for digital, one for analog.
Go litz, teflonsilver braid, for nonPOWERAMP mains cords. This makes perfect sense. I certainly wouldn't pay for it. At least not more than EBAY surplus for it. And craigs cords.

The thing that surprised me is, recently, the audio gods have smiled upon me, and I got a world class preamp, and good UK cottage industry boutique amp. For PEANUTS. But, the slightest imperfections now make music UNBEARABLE. I am remaking all my interconnects. Tightening all my RCA panel connectors. Deoxit all plugins. Cross all power and signal at right angles. Not touching if possible. Short as possible everything. Shielding everywhere. What used to not even be heard, now is scratchy, or hashey water torture. Boutique parts are NICE. Just not worth the prefleeced markup. Our systems are our wristwatches. They are our superbikes. Our Lambourweenies. Our still in box, rockum, sockum, robot EBAY find.

Not only that, but the judgements of what constitutes top quality often have very limited connections with reality.

Cornfields and factories or FM radio signals them do not radiate that much noise as it does the charger of your own mobile phone.
Some believe in the cable-hype and others have fallen in the opposite ditch of unbelievers. Both sides are wrong; as in most cases in life there IS a thruth out there somewhere for those who seeks knowledge.
Cables will off course make a differense like other passive components. Powercables are a bit moore than just "the last meter", it is moore like the arterie that feeds the heart. A good power-supply will be a waste if it is connected by a tiny stranded "last meter". Don`t think continious power, think dynamic capasity. This goes with speakercables too, wonder if anyone comes close to understand this.
Exotic materials is a waste, plain & thick solid copper does it perfectly well. Btw; there will never be found any piece of teflon in my system.
That's the other thing about buying shiny bits used. You have the whole internet to get reviews. NOT SO, with new and improved thingies. Product buzz, makes all kinds of people jump at mere rumor. Late adopting eyecandy is wise. Even more so, top manufacturers with solid reputations in their fields.

Actually, the pro-magic cables hype has become so fantastic, unrealistic and extreme that the truth is no longer in the middle.
Which is to say that the alleged benefits are largely elusive and imaginary.

Look, if you want to go and spend a few hundred on teflon coated silver plated OFC cable and cryogenically cooled IEC connectors for your mains cords, feel free. You may or may not notice a difference, but it's more likely to be due to unintentionally wiping and cleaning contacts in your long static bog standard plugs and sockets than changing the type of wire used. Also realise that using non-UL approved mains cables and connectors may invalidate your house contents and structure insurance if there's a fire. DO NOT (as I've seen suggested on several occasions here), use fancy speaker cables for DIY mains cords. Not only may you risk your insurance by doing that, but also your life.

As most people do sighted, cable-swapping type comparisons of power cords, the odds are extremely high that they will perceive a difference, due to the inherent flaws in the method used to compare.
That's why there is such a good business (as there is) in selling these things!
You better stick on your own business profession and leave to electricians the rest regarding material evaluation.
Are you using twisted pairs CAT4 at 1Mbit networks instead CAT6+ or better? because even this is a hype in your eyes?
I really don't see the point in cable (or any other component) threads. Those who argue they can't make a difference will continue to do so steadfastly. Those who hear a difference will continue to argue to the contrary. No amount of debate is going to resolve the issue or result in consensus.

You scientific types just do not understand that the secrets of cold fusion and anti gravity are locked up in line and speaker cords. That why red cords made on the night of the full moon sound better than blue ones made on Tuesdays.
Why don't you tell us about your qualifications to lecture on the topic of doing scientific listening tests.
I don't have any 1 Mbit networks at home - they are all GHz ethernet or wireless.
Why not? Teflon has a low tangens delta. And some mechanical properties that aren't necessary for amplifier but don't hurt either.
