Posted new P-P power amp design

Read back through the entire thread, or search it for your favorite numbers. I have stuffed dozens of output tubes into these boards in every size from small to huge. Both of the numbers you provided have been tried, and work well. I have seen power output up to 250 WPC from 35LR6's. So far I haven't found any tubes that have a suitable pinout that didn't work. Some Vertical sweep tubes (frame output) need higher screen voltage to function, so Horizontal sweep (line output) tubes are the best choice. I am not the only one here to try different tubes.

P-P power amp design

Ok, it took a year but she's almost complete

Transformer hum as discussed here before (NZ is 230v @ 50 Hz ) but very low level, speakers are dead quiet

Just need a preamp now ( may go passive 100K stepped attenuator)

Hello all, here is my piece. It took me almost 2 years but with the shared knowledge borrowed from this pages I finally arrived.

Thanks to Pete Millett and to all who contributed to this thread.
The amp sounds extremelly good, no hum and a surprising amount of power in stock configuration (6GV5 tubes), it beats, both in power and SQ, more powerful amps I own, ST-70s and other EL34 type of pp.

I am going to build the 6HJ5 80w version now :vampire:.

I hope the pictures work.

Thanks for the compliments. I cheated with the top plate, I got it from member ppp6l6gc more than a year ago. I have been trying to get in touch wit him recently, I could use some more, I can see some family and friends getting a really nice amp for Xmas.

I hooked it to a pair of Zu Omen speakers, I almost cried the first time I heard it, sooooo nice.
Again, thanks to all.

Ok this thread has gone a bit quiet!!

After a week on the rack I love this amp, it's really warmed up now (not sure on the exact burn in time) and the Russian caps have settled in and all is at harmony. Now for the problem; the fan is quite noisey!! Any ideas on making the fan a bit quieter???? I don't think it's the fan itself but rather the air movement, am going to turn it over tonight so that it sucks the air through from the top to bottom, not sure if it will work??

Cheers 🙂

Hi nightanole,
do you have any FrontPanelExpress files for the top plate, please let me know. This amp is so good that I plan to make a bigger one, 6HJ5 for about 70 watts, a clean top plate helps a lot in the building.
Thanks

And with this top plate you do not need a fan. It does get warm, but not very much.
