My results...

Okay! Well until I buy an LCD panel to do some real DIY stuff, here's my overhead projector/panel setup. I wouldn't post this unless I felt I did some ingenuity. I couldn't get my webcam to go up as high as my loft, so I can't show you what the overhead projector setup is like, but I put a fresnel lens about 4 inches above my LCD panel, and then fed the fresnel'ed image through the normal OHP optics. That was because I only had a 6 foot projection distance in my small closet-like dorm-room. The projector setup is literally right above your heads on the loft as you sit underneath on the couch. It's projecting onto a large bedsheet I've got stretched here, so the image isn't the best. Also, because of the short projection length, it kills my corner focus, and I can only focus on a specific part of the image. Really kinda' sucks, but there's nothing else I can do except make a curved screen to match the radius from my OHP (which I *might* just do)

Anyway, here's one picture (the DVD that's paused is UHF, and it's a picture of Wierd Al getting shocked by "60,000 volts" from Filo's "interocitor". It's a night scene with brights in it too)

Also, I apologize for the picture quality, but it was a free web-cam my dad got for a promo item at some computer convention. Mighta' been a door prize, I dunno'.

Here is an image of me playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit II. This is a bit "off-topic" as it has been taken so that the projector was still in it's original shape (with the 120w UHP lamp). It's a fun picture so I thought you might wanna see it anyway, and well, it is a image that can be used for a bit of comparision as it is an image projected with 500 ANSI lumen old commercial Sony LCD-projector in a room where some lights are on. Sorry about the crappy camera...

I have a video sample up on my girlfriend's website. I don't have a link to it on her site, because she probably will take it down soon, but be sure to visit her site at http://www.fallenrose.net 😛

The link to the video of a projection with:

Sharp QA1650
3M 9700 OHP (4300 lumens)
Apex AD5131 DVD hooked up to the 1650 via S-Video
DaLite projector screen (70x70)
No color adjustments have been made on the panel or DVD player.
I switched the video camera (JVC DVM90U MiniDV) to get the closest possible color to the original projection. If you have stereo speakers, you should be able to hear this in stereo 😉

The link is http://www.fallenrose.net/robert-san/cyberlien-proj-smp.mpg

It is a VideoCD 2.0 compliant MPEG1 file at about 10MB.

Sorry if I'm cramming this thread with posts... (be sure to check out my girlfriend's website and leave a message in the shoutbox :clown: )

Heh, why don't you just go to some hifi/hometheater store or computer store that sells projectors and ask for demonstration? They'll probably even show how your own dvds look like if you take them with you, just say that you are thinking of getting a projector, and maybe mention that you are wondering which is better, LCD or DLP, so you'll get to see the difference by your own eyes 😉

uhhh...im not intested in "retail" prjectors im into the art of the Diy-er😎 i know how retails look but i want to see peoples DIY projects because you get an idea of how better it is than "retails"
it MAY not be visually better than retail but the price is 🙂
If u have any videos HB i'd like to see em:clown:

Well, I don't have any videos and probably won't make any 🙂
I bought new FCS halogen today (150w/5000-6000 lumens) and took few images of the projection results in darkened room. This HP camera is very crappy in darkness so these images are pretty bad, the image is uite much better than it seems on the images. The lumen output seems to be something like 200 lumens. I will be getting 250w EVC bulbs when I find a transformer that can take them, and then the output should be about 300-400 lumens and that should be ok for now until I find a really interesting solution for a new light source.

Oh, the crappy images are to be seen here:

Thanks for looking 🙂

I will try to put up a video with some video games and different movies late tonight or tomorrow morning. The only reason why I don't do it now is because I have to go to work in a little while (and stay there until 10pm, ahhh!!!), ******* "flexible" hours...

wow:bigeyes: ....im STILL watching this movie, it looks super natural...its so nice u can videotape yuor movies and pass em a REAL bootlegs lol no one would know it was from your home 🙂
there is a song in the begining it sounds familiar... what movie is that? one more thing what OHP is that?
