As these and other heavy duty machinery goes electrik one of the most noticable side-effects is how the quiet and reduction in vibration puts less stres on operators and they do not fatigue as quickly

As is so happens.......The largest earth movers are among the earliest adopters of electric motor wheel drive.
Efficiency, so very carefully observed in these steel behemoths, is increased with the use of dedicated electro wheel motors supplied by two massive diesel generators. I'm guessing, but I imagine that the 300 + Tonne payloads requiring mechanical transmissions would be an engineering challenge in their own right, their replacement and down time expensive in the extreme. Doing away with them altogether is real engineering.
Of course this frees up power for the new subs, sauna, dip pool and loungers, did i mention the sauna? Our crew has saunas, and their choice of musak.

Yes you are right - there is no gearbox! It´s electric direct drive on each back wheel. ;-)
