Hello,
I am trying to build a cabinet for my guitar amp. I have build other cabinets but this time is different and i need some help. I need to build a ported cabinet, like the tl806 but the speaker i have is not the famous electrovoice el12.
I m going to use a jensen tornado classic 100 8 ohm istead.
I have used an online calculator to get me in the ballpark, here the results
Now, my doubts, the cabinet volume suggested is huge, 126 liters it is going to be oversized for guitar amp 1x12.
Do you think these results can be trusted or should i use a better source?
I know the tl806 cab design has slots and not pipes for the bass reflex but i don t care, i m not trying to clone the design, just the concept.

Lead or bass guitar?
Jensen Tornado Classic 100 is wrong choice for bas guitar ported cabinet because it has Xmax=+/- 1 mm, while EVM 12L has Xmax=+/- 3.3 mm.

Lead guitar cabinets almost exclusively are open back or closed, almost never ported. I am not a guitar player, but I don't recommend ported cabinet for a lead guitar.
The tl806 sounds very good to my ear, a lot of guitar player love it and i want to build one using a different speaker which is recommended by the manufacturer for ported cabs as well. I know it is not going to push a lot of air in the low frequencies with a xmax of 1m, i don t need it to go as low as 50hz. I play D standard on my guitars and usually drop C.
are the results i got from the online calculator usable?

On-line calculator will spit out Chebyshev alignment for the lowest F3 and lowest ripple, which in the case of driver with higher Qts parameter (like your Jensen) results in very big box volume Vb. But you can choose any other reasonable volume Vb if you don't need lof F3 - which is exactly your case. About 35-55 liters seems like a good number for Vb.
Maybe TL806 sounds good to your ear, but the driver inside is EVM12L whch has very low Qts (less than 1/2 of your Jensen), much longer Xmax (3 times bigger than Jensen) and different frequency response than Jensen. If you put Jensen in the TL806 cabinet, prepare yourself for very different sound - which you might not like.

That i know for sure, the speaker i have will not sound good in the tl806.
That is the reason why i want to build one following the concept of that cabinet design.
At least i now understand some of the parameters that i was ignoring and how they relate to the cabinet. Thank you for the informations 😉

Well, that is not exactly what I said. That i know for sure, the speaker i have will not sound good in the tl806.
That different sound you may or may not like. Build a ported box and please inform us about your findings. Wishing you all the best.If you put Jensen in the TL806 cabinet, prepare yourself for very different sound...
By "lead guitar" do you mean rock guitar with high levels of amplifier distortion, etc?
Or do you play with more of a 'clean' sound?
In my opinion, a whole lot of the sound you get is due to the speaker and its cabinet. The sound I got from a Celestion Vintage 70 or similar was quite different from a Jensen C12K 12" speaker.

I understand what you said, it will sound different and maybe not of my licking.Well, that is not exactly what I said.

Cool. I hope the experiment works out.
Do you have WinISD? I made a quick simulation using the T-S parameters you posted. It looks like a 56.6 liter (2 cu feet) cabinet with a roughly 10 cm diameter, 100 mm long port would give you a tuning without too much of a mid-bass bump, and 80 Hz with down only -2dB (that's close to the low E in standard tuning).
What that doesn't show is resonances, ripple, etc. Maybe that doesn't make much difference for electric guitar.
However, you wrote that you play D standard mostly, and usually drop-C. Does that mean your preferred tunings are D G C F A D and C D C F A D? Do you play heavy metal music? That low C would be down in the 50 Hz range, wouldn't it? That would be -6dB in the above alignment.

Hello, i don have windows available right now, that is why i didn t download that program.
In your results i m reading 6.9cm port length, not 10cm as you said, did you change that value according to your knowledge or you just said that wrong?
I d like to use a 3 pipe ports design, can you change that?
I play garage rock, stoner and other similar stuff but not metal.
Yes with a drop C from D standard you can get pretty low in the Hz area but i play with a bass player and i don t really need to get ground shaking bass, i do a lot of recording and i can say that below 80hz there is no much informations coming from my guitar. Playing live i feel i could benefit from a slightly fatter sound instead, i just don t want to have to load my car with a 4x12 when i have a gig.
Yes i m usually playing standard d tuning, D G C F A D and i often also drop the lower D to C, just like you mentioned.
Thank you for taking your time to make the calculations for me.
