Depending on how this one works out, later I'll do some preventative maintenance on my x1 possibly with multiturns.

My unit is a slightly later serial number.
Mine has the smaller 'black box' power supply. Friends has the matching chassis power supply.
Both mine and my friends x1 have been to PL at some stage.
Mine has ugs 6, Friends has ugs 4.
Very obviously the ugs in mine have been replaced.

Well, here I am again.
Trimpots arrived this arvo, so they've been installed, and the result is, silence.
The fault is now gone, cured, banished.
Even really firm wacks on the boards and relays have zero effect.
Those old trimpots must have been seriously bad.
I did a quick adjustment tonight, tomorrow I will give them a proper final adjustment.
I am perplexed as to how swapping the left/right ugs boards had no effect on the fault staying in the right channel.
Maybe both ugs needed work but only the right side main board was sensitive to any upstream failure.
In any event, both ugs are done.
I would very much like to thank Wayne, not just for an exception product, but also for helping out with information.
Many thanks also goes to cyclotronguy (Kent - I wonder, is this PL Kent ?) for his 'cheat sheet' and suggestions that were 100% spot on the money.
Ahhhhhhhhh another X1 back into circulation to make glorious music for another 23+ years 🙂

Just gave my X1 a reno.
Even with 25 turn trimpots, it's still not fun trying to tune the ugs modules.
I guess there's no hidden secret to this other than tiny bites at a time ?

Except with single turns, you Know your limited in what you can do.

simple enough - if you're Chicken as ZM and you're not overly knowing whatthishappeningthere as ZM, use multiturn
(I made my own Eagle footprint for multiturns, combining pins in line and pins zgzg, one thing less to worry when ordering parts)

Have the inputs loaded and keep the top on to the greatest extent possible. Here at the factory we normally adjust the DCO first with the amp cold, and again the next day when it's warm. The X1 DCO adjustment should go very quickly. Personally I prefer 1 turn pots on the UGS modules in the X1 / X2.5

I have ordered some less silly pots. (Probably won't have those till next week at a guess)
Yes I had the top covered as I know they can be temperature variable. (winter here so temps are for the most part under 20deg Celsius - 68F to you gents)
Just moving my make shift covers a little to get to the pots can alter the readings.
When I swap in the new pots, I will also load down the inputs.

Brilliance, more like: "I try and not make the same mistake twice" There are way too many fun new mistakes to make! Mistakes come from a lack of practical experience and experience comes from mistakes. If you have problems contact me over at the factory site.
I think once you get a pot without a springamathing on the wiper you will get better results. Are you looking at DCO on the module itself or at the output of the X1. Correct place to take the reading is from the module to signal ground.

I'm using the right most rca tag that goes to the main board.
Er ok, yes I admit I was using the designated test points on the main board, but Once the new pots are in, I will use the ZVN tabs 🙂
