There's nothing to excuse, Cal.

The CD screws into the back of the magnet. The woofer apparently has a built-in horn with a ~transparent dust cap.
As for any attempt at a physical time alignment, the HF needs to be behind the woofer's motor.

However, from the examples I put the JBL is better aligned in time than the Tannoy.
At the very least, the tweeter coil is on the same vertical axis as the woofer coil.
In the Tannoy the HF coil is back as you say. So there are not the same criteria, but the Tannoy was considered a success and the JBL a failure, although I do not share that opinion.
They also have ceramic, single magnet coaxials with a front gap for the woofer and a rear gap for the tweeter so that would seem to assist with the time alignment.
My apologies to the OP fot the OT, I just wanted you to see the development of Seas and the HF and LF coils appear to be aligned on the same vertical axis, this principle is used a lot in individual driver cabinets, aligning in time with staggered baffles.

True, but you need a 2nd order with the tweeter polarity reversed or use 4th order with its 1 Hz offset. Move the tweeter's acoustic center back based on the slope order and it can be wired same polarity for both time and phase alignment.

Ok thanks for the information.
I'd like to see how Eminence's assembled kit looks, (the compression tweeter screwed into the back of the twoofer, wow, it's new to me!) No photos found ...

I was looking at the Beta -12cx and the ASD1001, but the big spike at the crossover turned me off. I don't have skills to design a X-over to fix it. I like the looks of the BM-15CXHB. Would like a coax with a real horn like the BM.
I would second the B&C recommendation. I sold my pair of 604Es last year planning to replace them with a B&C 14CX88s until the virus changed my plans. The 14s were a real sweet spot between 12s and 15s but do require a sub for hifi use. My plans were to switch over to them for stage monitors and build an extra pair for home use but all that went up in Covid smoke. When the smoke clears I'll still build some boxes for the pair I have. Great sounding speakers without the mildly annoying glitch near crossover that the 604s had.
While I would love a pair of 604, ...

I found it, cute beast !

The B&C look nice, but don't quite fit the "poor man's" wallet. Looked at US speaker for the
BM-15CXHB, I don't think they are available anymore?

Eminence coaxials are great imo.
Beta 12CX work great with the following screw-ons:
ASD1001 (bright and soft sounding)
PSD2002 (better mids and crisp, but a little dark)
PSD2013 (havent tried yet, next in my purchase list)

I recently assembled 12CX/PSD2002 with great results using the 2k5cx xo and variable lpad. To the price its quite amazing and nothing like it imo. The 10" also works great with the same drivers above, im very happy with both my recent projects. All combos need some active EQ though when using the standard xo, but pro xo assemblers can probably make it flat.
I guess the new kappalite neo 12/15 coaxials will be even better due to controlled resonance/breakup compared to the beta, simpler to make a good crossover and higher SPL.
APT50 to me wasn't as good at this low crossover point 1,5-2,5kHz.
Im also playing around with the Selenium D220Ti, but I dont like it so far.
I dont get why anyone wants to remove the dust cap though, sounds like an idiot idea. the dust cap protects the whole motor.

Could a somewhat lower crossover point be used (6 db) to flatten the woofer response? Say 1.25K and let the xo slope flatten the rise?
Cygnus, the P.Audio Blue Monster series are/were nice coax at a reasonable price. My friend John has a pair of the 18" coax and it's quite the driver! Extremely dynamic, very good imaging.
I have not heard the 15" version, but I think John has. He has also worked with the Eminence neo coax and a JBL (I think) compression driver. Maybe he'll chime in here.
