Or ECL82/6BM8... the EL84 gives you more latitude for a driver tube thou.

You can't forget the pot
What is it ECC83->EL84 with EX81??

Do you mean 6CA4 = EZ81?

A 6CA4 is an EZ81... the Rogers tube is a Philips, so is just badged 6CA4 for the North American market... out of interest where was it made (the 1st character of the 2nd row of little codes near the bottom of the tube). I can't quite make out the code from your pic... my first guess based on what i can see is that it is a B = Mullard Blackburn plant.
Are the other tubes also Rogers/Philips?

Now there is a fine example of thinking outside the box!!!!My home brewed earphoneamp. I used ECC86 (6GM8) on 60V.

hobbyshop. The original purpose of the box is unknown.
That answers the question exactly.
To re-purpose is to take something intended for 1 purpose and use it for something else.

The little codes are hard to rub off, and i can almost make them out in your pic, so you should be able to make them out.
The arrow in the "enhanced" photo points to the character of interest.

Cool... i'll assume it is a capital B... so you actually have a Mullard EZ81 made August 1968.
